Excel - ISNONTEXT Function

ISNONTEXT Function

Many powerful functions in MS Excel work with numbers and generate errors when applied to non-numeric values. It is challenging to inspect each item in the massive worksheet to scrutinize the data type issues that affect the user's productivity.

To resolve this issue, the Excel ISNONTEXT function is applied to test the cell's content. The Excel ISNONTEXT function returns a Boolean value, whether TRUE or FALSE. It returns TRUE if the field value points to a value other than text. Otherwise, it will retrieve the false if the text string is found in the Value.

  • It is listed in the Excel Information Functions and was first introduced in Excel 2007.
  • If the empty string is directly in the ISNONTEXT function, it returns the FALSE value. For example, =ISNONTEXT("", 4).
  • The ISNONTEXT function does not handle the circular reference, as it returns 0 if the circular reference is passed as an argument.
  • If the argument "Value" contains the cell reference points to an error, then the ISNONTEXT function will return TRUE. Date and time values will also be considered numbers.
  • If the argument "VALUE" contains the text string, this function retrieves the FALSE.
