DPRODUCT Function

The Microsoft Excel DPRODUCT function will receive the product of quantitative values in a specific list or database column that meets the specified criteria. The DPRODUCT function refer to the Database Product function. Database functions are different from aggregate functions, as a condition needs to be specified in every database function. Once the condition is met, the Database function will generate the correct result. For example, Calculate the net sales product of quarter 3 of AC product only.

The DPRODUCT function comes under the category of the Microsoft Excel Database function.

Syntax

The syntax of DPRODUCT function is as follows −

DPRODUCT (database, field, criteria)

Arguments

You can use the following arguments with the DPRODUCT function −

Field It represents the column label where the product of values is to be taken place only after meeting the specified criteria. You can also use numbers 1, 2, and 3 to indicate the column placement, like 1 shows the first column, 2 shows the second column, and so on. Required
Criteria A cells range representing the conditions. Required

Points to Remember

  • The DPRODUCT function will return the #VALUE! error if you refer to the incorrect cell reference for the Field argument or write the invalid range for the database as a first argument.
  • If you specify a different field value not defined in the database, the DPRODUCT function will return a zero value.

In this example, you have explored the PRODUCT function to evaluate the total value of a products quantity after meeting the defined criteria.

First, you may enter the DPRODUCT function =DPRODUCT(B2:D17,D2,F3:G4) into the cell and press the Enter tab. The F2:G3 range showcases the cell range that specifies the condition.

Similarly, we can evaluate the product of the number of IFB Washing machines through the PRODUCT function in Excel.

Select the G12 cell and write the formula =DPRODUCT(A1:C13,C1,F5:G6) and hit the Enter button.

The DPRODUCT function will return the #VALUE! error if you refer to the incorrect cell reference for the Field argument or write the invalid range for the database as a first argument.

Solution

You have entered the DPRODUCT formula =DPRODUCT(A1:C13,I1,F2:G3) in the G9 cell. Here, the second argument I1 refers to null values.

Solution
