WORKDAY.INTL Function

The Excel WORKDAY.INTL function generates the date serial number before or after a certain number of working days using the custom weekend parameter. It is an enhanced version of the WORKDAY function. This function is very beneficial in financial management, incident management, inventory management, and the healthcare sector. For example, it evaluates project completion dates, computes patient discharge dates, and identifies due dates for resolving incidents.

Syntax

The syntax of WORKDAY.INTL formula is as follows −

=WORKDAY.INTL(start_date, days, [weekend], [holidays])

Arguments

You can use the following arguments with the WORKDAY.INTL function −

Argument Description Required / Optional
Start_date It specifies the date serial number or date that represents the start date. Required
Days

It shows the number of workdays prior to or following the start_date.

  • A positive value produces a future date
  • A negative value produces a past date
  • A zero value produces the start_date

Day-offset value will be truncated to an integer.

Weekend A numeric value ranging from 1 to 7, 11 to 17 represents the weekend days. Look at the Weekend table below. Optional
Holidays It specifies the array of dates that denotes the holidays, floating days. Optional

This table show the weekend number corresponding to the weekend days.

Points to Remember

  • If start_date is beyond the range for the current date base value, then the WORKDAY.INTL function will retrieve the #NUM! error.
  • If holidays date is beyond the range for the current date base value, then the WORKDAY.INTL function will retrieve the #NUM! error.
  • If start_date adds with day-offset produces an invalid date, then the WORKDAY.INTL function will retrieve the #NUM! error.
  • If the "weekend" argument contains an invalid numeric value, then, in this case, the WORKDAY.INTL function generates the #NUM! error.
  • If a special character or weekend length is of invalid string, then the WORKDAY.INTL function will retrieve the #VALUE! error.
  • If the invalid dates are specified in the "start date" or the "array's date", then the WORKDAY.INTL function will return the #VALUE! error.
  • If the "days" argument contains a non-numeric value, then the WORKDAY.INTL function will retrieve the #VALUE! error.

Example of WORKDAY.INTL Function in Excel

In this example, we have assigned the server configuration tasks to a few desktop engineers, each requiring 7 working days from the given start date. The main goal is to extract the date specifying 7 working days after the start date using the WORKDAYS.INTL function.

Solution

Step 1 − Assume the sample dataset consists of three columns Task's Start Date, No. of Working Days and Result.

Step 2 − After that, select the cell range D2:D4 and write the formula =WORKDAY.INTL(B2,C2) in the formula bar.

Step 3 − Afterward, press the "Ctrl+Enter" to calculate the date serial number. The WORKDAY.INTL function ignored the weekend days Saturday and Sunday by default when computing the result.

Step 4 − If you wish to assign the server configuration task with the 5 working days where Monday and Tuesday are considered as the weekend days. Then in this scenario, enter the formula =WORKDAY.INTL("22-03-2024",5,3) in the C6 cell.
