Hello everyone: I am using Dev C++ to generate an .exe from a very simple c source code. When I try to generate de .exe I get the message: "gcc: -lobjc: linker input file unused since linking not done" In the compiler options I set the option "link an objective C program", so I dont know wahts going w´rong with the buliding process. I tried tó compile and link usin the command line on a dos shell but I dont find any help about the commands, neither within Dev C++ nor in the internet. When I compile i just get the .o file but no chance to get the .exe Who can help me out? _________________________________________________________________ FREE pop-up blocking with the new MSN Toolbar - get it now! http://toolbar.msn.click-url.com/go/onm00200415ave/direct/01/ |

Yes, Code:Blocks is really, really good. I normally use it for all new projects, and often convert older projects from Dev-C++ to Code:Blocks. I liked the package handling in Dev-C++, but since I do most of my development using different versions of MinGW, I have to rebuild any libraries anyway. Code::Blocks has a better editor, better integration with compilers, better integration with debugger, better support for syntax-highlighting of other languages or custom file formats, ... When having a choice, I definitely recommend Code:Blocks. /Per W On Wed, 25 Oct 2006, Thymian wrote: > > Per Westermark wrote: > > > I would say that the choice of Delphi was the largets stumbling stone f= or > > Dev-C++. Use the right tool for the job. that is exactly why I think Dev-C++=B4s role is good: you have a development environment that you can use regardless of which wi= dget set (or even none at all) you like to use! The original poster said he found QT to do what he wants, and I already su= ccessfully used some GTK interface builder from within Dev-C++. If you don=B4t need a GUI,= use plain Dev- C++, if you need a GUI, plug something into Dev-C++ for visually editing t= he GUI components, but you do not have to change your IDE and work flow (which yo= u probably are used to). > On 25/10/06, w.w...@as... <w.w...@as...> wrote: > > Hi, > > On 25 Oct 2006 at 1:10, M. Code::Blocks is a free C++ IDE built to meet the most demanding needs of its users. It is designed to be very extensible and fully configurable. Among others, it imports Dev-C++ projects. Built around a plugin framework, Code::Blocks can be extended with plugins. It even includes a plugin wizard so you can create your own plugins! (Free SDK downloaded separately) Finally, an IDE with all the features you need, having a consistent look, feel and operation across platforms. One of the developers said, how he joined the free Code::Blocks project: "I was a regular Dev-C++ user. I had used it for some time, and recently had tested its spinoff wx-devcpp by Guru Kathiresan. Around 2004, I thought that a C++ IDE should be written in C++ (and not in Delphi, like Dev-C++ is written), So I began thinking on the idea of a cross-platform IDE. After researching on various free IDE's, I found Code::Blocks and joined in the beginnings of 2005 to help debug and implement one or two features. Since then, I've been using Code::Blocks and never regretted it! :)" You may find the Code::Blocks project website with free download page at: http://www.codeblocks.org/ Gruß, Werner Kitzmann . |

I understand the original poster's comments that it is a bad thing for him. Up until last spring it was a detracting point for me. However, since that time I became increasingly interested in server-side applications without any GUI whatsoever. Also, my devt laptop is not very powerful. At this time Dev-C++ is perfect for my task. Previously, building business apps for a desktop it was not very productive. Use the right tool for the job. I would say that the choice of Delphi was the largets stumbling stone for Dev-C++. If implemented in C++, a lot of people would have sent in patches with bug fixes and new functions, instead of just sending in bug reports and enhancement requests. The survivability of a project depends to a significant part on the amount of fresh blood that can cooperate to maintain it. /Per W On Wed, 25 Oct 2006, M. DevC++ is built in delphi, there are no plans or any future development. you could try codeblocks, which is still under development Codeblocks is due to release 1.03 soon. http://forums.codeblocks.org/ DevC++ is still useable, but won't be updated. I'm wondering Dev-C++ built by commercial product (Delphi), what the admins plans for future ? not anybody has Delphi (I've one but it's cracked huhuhu :-P ), usually open source community using open source resourced not commercials !, I've tested Dev-C++ it's very good but i need it for Linux and i got fear when i saw Delphi !, so i need answers from Admin specially, cuz Dev-C++ not small project it will be big project in the future if it has popular in open source community . |

I'm afraid I don't know what you mean by graphical, since most - all? - code editors and integrated development environments do display the source code... Anyway, Dev-C++ have syntax highligting, class browser, analyzes context and can pop up a list of class emmbers etc to speed up typing. While having similar features as Visual-C++, it isn't as polished. But then again, there is a very significant difference in price of the two products - the Express edition of Visual C++ has serious limitations when it comes to supplied libraries, headers and what it can target. /Per W On Tue, 24 Oct 2006, M. Dev-C++ version 4.9.9.2 Window XP Professional Is in this version of Dev-C++ a option to perform only pre-compilation of a ..c file? If yes, could you please, tell me how to perform this option? Nothing wrong with the source, except that you have used some very starnge characters for indentation. White space may only be space, tab, horizontal tap, carriage return and line feed. If you open the source in the really stupid program edit, the strange characters will be clearly visible. /Per W On Thu, 19 Oct 2006 k.a...@at... wrote: > Can someone please help me. That is one of the reasons why you may download the Dev-C++ environment without the compiler - you might already have a different version of MinGW. The only disadvantage of using a different version of gcc, is that you can't use any precompiled c++ libraries. The compiler regularly changes name mangling, and internal memory layout of generated c++ code. Since I normally retrieve source and build the needed C++ libraries myself, this isn't too much of a problem. /Per W On Wed, 18 Oct 2006, Hossein Haeri wrote: > Dear all, > > OK, with the aids of some of you, I realised that this list is still alive.
