He speaks about getch() declared in conio.h . getch() does not belong to the standard C but is a platform extension. Use it in this way: #include <conio.h> int main() { char c=getch(); } I saw that in Dev-C++ it has output to the screen where usually in other compilers it does not. The only thing which is 100% is that standard C does not provide you with input function from keyboard which has no "feedback" on thee screen. Also about the thing i told before about fclose(stdout); was a mistake. Here is a solution for your case on Dev-C++ (and probably working in many others Windows C/C++ compilers): #include <stdio.h> #include <conio.h> char clean_getch(void) { char c=getche(); printf("\b \b"); return c; } Ioannis * Ioannis Vranos * Programming pages: http://members.nbci.com/noicys * Alternative URL: http://run.to/noicys > -----Original Message----- > From: dev...@li... > [mailto:dev...@li...]On Behalf Of > Kluck, Stefan > Sent: Wednesday, February 28, 2001 9:42 PM > To: 'dev...@li...' > Subject: AW: [Dev-C++] character input without keyboard echo > > > tried getch(), but *does* echo to the screen (Dev-C++ 4.01, Windows NT 4.0 > SP5) > :-( > > Stephan |

I was wondering why the size of my simple "Hello, world!" executable is nearly three times the size of my simple window application. I imagine it has something to do with external DLL's or something, but could someone clue me in for curiosity's sake? Thanks, krs. I found it. It turns out that strstrea.h is MS version of strstream.h -- go figure. Has anyone ever messed around with SST (Super Simple Toolkit)? http://devcentral.iftech.com/learning/tutorials/c-cpp/sst/ I can not get it to work, but would like to. This looks like a gui that I could learn in a few hours/days. Has anyone had any luck getting it to work ? - Jared At 11:28 PM 2/27/2001 -0600, you wrote: >will this help? >http://www.galstar.com/~jhyoung/cpp/include/strstrea.htm > >----- Original Message ----- >From: "Ramana Kumar" <ra...@my...> >To: <dev...@li...> >Sent: Tuesday, February 27, 2001 9:21 PM >Subject: RE: [Dev-C++] strstrea.h > > > > I don't have it, but I would like whoever sends it to Jared to tell me >where > > they got it. You will need to compile them on a linux machine, preferably the web server itself (each linux machine is unique enough that a program compiled on one might not run on another). If you wrote the program in C, then type "gcc -o exename source1.c source2.c source3.c" If you wrote the program in C++, it's "g++ -o exename source1.cpp source2.cpp" Replace "exename" with whatever you wish to call the executable file, and replace sourceN with your list of source files. For example, if I wish to compile hello.cpp into the executable "hello", I would type "g++ -o hello hello.cpp" Now copy the executable to your cgi-bin directory and you should be set. Frazell - > What is the amount of ram you have on your system? And how much free when you start the cimpile? I have 64 Meg of RAM in the system and in the neighborhood of 15 to 20 free when I start to compile the program. During compilation free memory never drops below 10 Meg. The program, by the way, compiles to a .EXE file a little over 4 Meg in size and that includes the debug information. Chuck |

What is the amount of ram you have on your system? And how much free when you start the cimpile? -----Original Message----- From: dev...@li... Now that I'm working with more complex programs the compile time has gone up significantly. It take 4 or 5 minutes to compile after each revision. There is a lot of hard disk activity. While all of this is going on I have at least 10 Meg of available RAM. There appears to be no command line option to use the available RAM instead of reading and writing from the disk. Is that true? I'm not asking for a full build each time but it doesn't seem to make any difference in the compilation time. Is there any way to minimize hard disk activity and speed up the operation? Since your are a beginner(well, even if your weren't), I suggest OGL. It's cleaner, portable, easier to use and learn... better. Many will dissagree, though. Like, glMatrix(); > well, I don't want to offend you, but aren't you going a little too fast? If you don't know cameras, if you don't even know how to rotate the matrix, can you really make an engine(even as simple one as doom)? Maybe you should try something easier first, some simpler games, I can personally help you if you want. Anyway, the answer: something like 'real' camera doesn't actually exist in OGL. And yes, you do rotate, translate or whatever the whole world. But doing that is identical to rotating, translating or whatever the matrix, since the matrix itself reperesents the world. A matrix contains a lot of useful information: x-axis y-axis z-axis (above three are vectors) scale factor for each of these and some other. This is the case for the modelview matrix, of course. I believe people on this list are sick of me, since I always suggest my site, but I'll do it again: www.vault13.cjb.net There's a tutorials about rotation/translation and such things. email me if anything is unclear: ma...@va... You have given too little information for real help, but... it could certainly be the drivers. If you use one that come with w98/me or some that your manufacturer provides, it is very possible it's the drivers fault. Try www.nvidia.com, and download the latest DETONATOR drivers, but be sure to download the pci version. It could be that your driver is missing some relevant functions, so they are emulated in software. The difference between VANTA and some 'normal' tnt2 is big, but not that big.... my friend with Celeron366, 64mb ram and tnt2 VANTA PCI 16MB plays Q3 at a reasonable fps... Max |

Tips? I don't know. But all of my tutorials use GLUT and everything works fine. First of all, you need to get glut libs(but not .lib files). You need ones for Dev-C++. They have .a extension. Try my page: www.vault13.cjb.net There are ports to dev-c++ and there should be a link to dev-c++ libs/headers for gl/glut. I say: "should", because my webmaster had been changing the site, so it's possible he left something out. If you can't find it, contact me, and I'll send it to you directly.
