Precision Physics with $B^{0}_{s} \to J/\psi \phi$ at the LHC : The Quest for New Physics / Faller, Sven (CERN ; Siegen U.) ; Fleischer, Robert (CERN ; Rome U.) ; Mannel, Thomas (CERN ; Siegen U.)
CP-violating effects in the time-dependent angular distribution of the B^0_s -> J/psi[-> ell^+ ell^-] phi[-> K^+K^-] decay products play a key role for the search of new physics. The hadronic Standard-Model uncertainties are related to doubly Cabibbo-suppressed penguin contributions and are usually assumed to be negligibly small. [...]

The Golden Modes $B^0 \to J/\psi K_{S,L}$ in the Era of Precision Flavour Physics / Faller, Sven (CERN ; Siegen U.) ; Jung, Martin (Siegen U.) ; Fleischer, Robert (CERN) ; Mannel, Thomas (CERN ; Siegen U.)
The B^0 -> J/\psi K_{S,L} channels are outstanding probes of CP violation. We have a detailed look at the associated Standard-Model uncertainties, which are related to doubly Cabibbo-suppressed penguin contributions, and point out that these usually neglected effects can actually be taken into account unambiguously through the CP asymmetries and the branching ratio of the B^0 -> J/\psi pi^0 decay. Neutrino-Mass Hierarchies and Non-linear Representation of Lepton-Flavour Symmetry / Feldmann, Thorsten (Siegen U.) ; Mannel, Thomas (Siegen U. ; CERN)
Lepton-flavour symmetry in the Standard Model is broken by small masses for charged leptons and neutrinos. Introducing neutrino masses via dimension-5 operators associated to lepton-number violation at a very high scale, the corresponding coupling matrix may still have entries of order 1, resembling the situation in the quark sector with large top Yukawa coupling. Direct CP Violation In Radiative B Decays / Hurth, Tobias (CERN) ; Mannel, Thomas (Karlsruhe U., TTP)
We discuss the role of the radiative B decays $B \to X_{s/d} \gamma$ in our search for new physics focusing on the issue of direct CP violation. We discuss in some detail a SM prediction for the CP asymmetries in inclusive $b \to s/d$ transitions, namely $\mid \Delta {\cal B}(B \to X_s \gamma) + \Delta {\cal B}(B \to X_d \gamma) \mid \sim 1 \cdot 10^{-9}$. CP Asymmetries in $b \to (s/d)$ Transitions as a Test of CKM CP Violation / Hurth, Tobias (CERN) ; Mannel, Thomas (CERN ; Karlsruhe U., TTP)
We point out that a simple test of the mechanism of CP violation can be performed by a measurement of the CP asymmetries in exclusive and inclusive radiative rare decays. We show that the rate asymmetries $\Delta \Gamma = \Gamma(B^- \to f \gamma) - \Gamma(B^+ \to \bar{f} \gamma)$} for certain final states $f$ can be predicted in a theoretically clean way. [...]

Exploring New Physics in the $B\to \phi K$ System / Fleischer, Robert (DESY) ; Mannel, Thomas (CERN ; Karlsruhe U.)
Employing the SU(2) isospin symmetry of strong interactions and estimates borrowed from effective field theory, we explore the impact of new physics on the decays $B^\pm\to \phi K^\pm$ and $B_d\to \phi K_S$ in a model-independent manner. To this end, we introduce - in addition to the usual mixing-induced CP asymmetry in $B_d\to \phi K_S$ - a set of three observables, which may not only provide smoking-gun signals for new-physics contributions to different isospin channels, but also valuable insights into hadron dynamics. Light-cone distribution functions for B decays at subleading order in $1/m_{b}$ / Bauer, Christian W. (UC, San Diego) ; Luke, Michael E. (Toronto U.) ; Mannel, Thomas (Karlsruhe U. ; CERN)
We construct the higher twist structure functions that describe inclusive b hadron decays in regions of phase space where the hadronic decay products carry high energy but have low invariant mass. We show that, for B meson decays, there are four new non-vanishing matrix elements of non-local operators. [...]
