Q. No. Particulars (Answer Q-1 which is compulsory and any three from Q-2 to Q-6)
rks
1. Route the following hydrograph through a river reach for which K=8.0 hr and x=0.25. At 8
the start of the inflow flood, the outflow discharge is 8 m3/s.

2. (a) What are the methods available to estimate evaporation losses from surfaces and large 7
water bodies? Discuss any one approach suitably.
(b) Mean and standard deviation from annual peak of a river covering 75 years of data is 4000 7
and 1200 m3/s respectively. Using Gumbel's method, calculate the return period of the
flood of 1000 m3/s.
3. (a) What is two-step procedure of discharge measurement? Also explain the Area-velocity 7
method of discharge measurement.
(b) Rating curve of a current meter is given by 𝒗𝒗=𝟎𝟎.𝟓𝟓1𝑵𝑵𝒔𝒔+𝟎𝟎.𝟎𝟎3 m/s, where Ns is the 7
revolution per second. Find Discharge if the current meter reading is as shown in Table
below.

4. (a) Distinguish between (i) Actual and potential evapotranspiration (ii) Field capacity and 7
permanent wilting point.
(b) In a 160-min storm the following rates of rainfall were observed in successive 20-min 7
interval: 6.0, 6.0, 18.0, 13.0, 2.0, 2.0 and 12.0 mm/h. Assuming the Ф-index value as 3.0
mm/h, determine the total rainfall and net runoff.
5. (a) With neat sketch Explain in brief different structural and non-structural measures to 7
control the flood.
(b) The direct runoff hydrograph resulting from a 5.0 cm effective rainfall of 6-h duration is 7
given below. Determine the area of the catchment and the ordinates of the 6-h unit
hydrograph.

6. (a) With neat sketch show the different components of a flood hydrograph and explain all 7
factors that affect the flood hydrograph.
(b) Ordinates of the 1-hr unit hydrograph of a basin at 1-hr intervals are 5, 8, 5, 3, and 1 7
cumecs. Calculate S- curve hydrograph and 2-h unit hydrograph for the catchment.
