Linac4 Beam Characterization before Injection into the CERN PS Booster
/ Mikulec, B (CERN) ; Bellodi, G (CERN) ; Eshraqi, M (CERN) ; Hanke, K (CERN) ; Hermanns, T (CERN) ; Lombardi, A M (CERN) ; Raich, U (CERN)
Construction work for the new CERN linear accelerator, Linac4, started in October 2008. Linac4 will replace the existing Linac2 and provide an H− beam at 160 MeV (as opposed to the present 50 MeV proton beam) for injection into the CERN PS Booster (PSB). [...]

Diagnostic Lines for the 160 MeV H Linac4 at CERN
/ Mikulec, B (CERN) ; Bellodi, G (CERN) ; Hanke, K (CERN) ; Hermanns, T (CERN) ; Eshraqi, M (ESS, Lund, Sweden)
Linac4 will be the new linear accelerator of the CERN accelerator chain delivering H- ions at 160 MeV from 2016. The increased injection energy compared to the 50 MeV of its predecessor Linac2, combined with a H- charge-exchange injection, will pave the way to reach ultimate goals for the LHC luminosity. [...]

Progress in the Construction of Linac4 at CERN

As first step of the LHC luminosity upgrade program CERN is building a new 160 MeV H¯ linear accelerator, Linac4, to replace the ageing 50 MeV Linac2 as injector to the PS Booster (PSB). Linac4 is an 86-m long normalconducting linac made of a 3 MeV injector followed by 22 accelerating cavities of three different types. [...]

Multi-turn injection of 50 MeV protons into the CERN Proton Synchrotron booster
/ Raginel, V (CERN) ; Benedetto, E (CERN) ; Carli, C (CERN) ; Mikulec, B (CERN)
Since 1978, Linac2 produces beams of 50 MeV protons with a current around 160 mA, which are injected into the CERN Proton Synchrotron Booster (PSB) with conventional multi-turn injection using a horizontal septum. It is planned to replace Linac2 during a future long stop with a new H- linac, Linac4, injecting at higher energy (160 MeV) and making use of the modern chargeexchange injection principle. [...]

Status and plans for Linac4 installation and commissioning
/ Vretenar, M (CERN) ; Akroh, A (CERN) ; Arnaudon, L (CERN) ; Baudrenghien, P (CERN) ; Bellodi, G (CERN) ; Broere, J (CERN) ; Brunner, O (CERN) ; Comblin, J F (CERN) ; Coupard, J (CERN) ; Dimov, V A (CERN) et al.
Linac4 is a normal conducting 160 MeV Hˉ linear accelerator presently being installed and progressively commissioned at CERN. It will replace the ageing 50 MeV Linac2 as injector of the PS Booster (PSB), increasing at the same time its brightness by a factor of two thanks to the higher injection energy. [...]

The LINAC4 Project at CERN
/ Arnaudon, L (CERN) ; Baudrenghien, P (CERN) ; Bertone, C (CERN) ; Body, Y (CERN) ; Broere, J (CERN) ; Brunner, O (CERN) ; Buzio, M (CERN) ; Carli, C (CERN) ; Caspers, F (CERN) ; Corso, JP (CERN) et al.
As the first step of a long-term programme aiming at an increase in the LHC luminosity, CERN is building a new 160 MeV H¯ linear accelerator, Linac4, to replace the ageing 50 MeV Linac2 as injector to the PS Booster (PSB). Linac4 is an 86-m long normal-conducting linac made of an H¯ source, a Radio Frequency Quadrupole (RFQ), a chopping line and a sequence of three accelerating structures: a Drift-Tube Linac (DTL), a Cell-Coupled DTL (CCDTL) and a Pi-Mode Structure (PIMS).
