Electronics for CMS Endcap Muon Level-1 Trigger System Phase-1 and HL LHC Upgrades Summary / Madorsky, Alexander (Florida U.) /CMS Collaboration
To accommodate high-luminosity LHC operation at 13 TeV collision energy, the CMS Endcap Muon Level-1 Trigger system had to be significantly modified. To provide the best track reconstruction, the trigger system must now import all available trigger primitives generated by Cathode Strip Chambers and by certain other subsystems, such as Resistive Plate Chambers (RPC). [...]

The Phase-1 Upgrade for the Level-1 Muon Barrel Trigger of the ATLAS Experiment at LHC / Izzo, Vincenzo (INFN Napoli and Universita' di Napoli, Dipartimento di Fisica, Napoli) ; Aloisio, Alberto (INFN Napoli and Universita' di Napoli, Dipartimento di Fisica, Napoli) ; Giordano, Raffaele (INFN Napoli and Universita' di Napoli, Dipartimento di Fisica, Napoli) ; Perrella, Sabrina (INFN Napoli and Universita' di Napoli, Dipartimento di Fisica, Napoli) ; Vari, Riccardo (INFN Roma and Sapienza Universita' di Roma, Dipartimento di Fisica) /ATLAS Collaboration
The Level-1 Muon Barrel Trigger of the ATLAS Experiment at LHC makes use of Resistive Plate Chamber (RPC) detectors. The on-detector trigger electronics modules are able to identify muons with predefined transverse momentum values (pT) by executing a coincidence logic on signals coming from the various detector layers. The Phase-I Level-1 Muon Trigger of the ATLAS Experiment receives inputs from the Resistive Plate Chamber (RPC) detector in the barrel region and from the Thin Gap Chamber (TGC), the BIS78 RPC and the New Small Wheel (NSW) detectors in the endcap region. It undergoes an intensive upgrade programme to withstand the increasing LHC luminosity and the more demanding requirements on trigger efficiency and performance. [...]

The algorithm of the CMS Level-1 Overlap Muon Track Finder trigger / Bunkowski, Karol (Warsaw U.) /CMS Collaboration
The CMS Level-1 trigger, based on custom electronics built around FPGA devices, was upgraded in 2016 to achieve the required performance with almost two times higher LHC luminosity than originally designed. The upgraded Level-1 muon trigger merges data from the three muon detectors in the CMS (DT, CSC, and RPC) in the track reconstruction stage -- contrary to the legacy trigger which comprised three separate systems each based on one muon detector.
