Hepatitis C cascades of care - September 17, 2018

Presenter:  Naveed Janjua

Cascade of care is a tool to measure program progress and identifies gaps in access and engagement in hepatitis C virus (HCV) care and treatment. In British Columbia, the HCV care cascade shows improvement in the progression of people affected from diagnosis to infection confirmation, linkage with care and treatment initiation. Though, there are gaps in treatment initiation among people in younger birth cohorts and people who inject drugs (PWID).

Exploring difficult aspects of TB care - September 17, 2018

Most individuals diagnosed with infectious, active TB are asked to home isolate during their infectious period of the disease and may be recommended to take directly observed treatment (DOT). There is a risk that clients perceive home isolation and DOT as punitive interventions by the health care team. This webinar will review the meaning of home isolation and DOT from both the medical and client perspective and offer recommendations to minimize the negative impact these interventions have on individuals’ lives.

 

Compassion, Inclusion and Engagement (CIE) Program - September 17, 2018

The CIE Project brings together people who use drugs (also referred to as peers), service providers, and health leadership to improve peer engagement, build capacity, and sustain networks focused on harm reduction systems improvements, especially in urban centres outside of the lower mainland.  This webinar will outline the project and the approach taken to supporting communities in responding to the overdose crisis.

By reviewing recent updates to the STI Certified Practice DSTs through the lens of gender-affirming care, participants will: understand common terminology related to gender; identify common barriers to care faced by people who are transgender, Two-Spirit and gender-diverse; learn about the gender-affirming approach to providing care; understand the updates in the STI Certified Practice DSTs as they apply to the provision of gender-affirming care.
