Design and Test of a Signal Packet Router Prototype for the ATLAS NSW sTGC Detector / Hu, Xueye (University of Michigan, Department of Physics)
Abstract– The New Small Wheel (NSW) small-strip thin-gap chambers (sTGC) detector will be installed in Large Hadron Collider (LHC) during ATLAS Phase-I upgrade. For sTGC detector, it requires very high-speed electronic triggering of signal events. [...]

Trigger Algorithms and Electronics for the ATLAS Muon NSW Upgrade / Guan, Liang (University of Michigan, Department of Physics)
The ATLAS New Small Wheel (NSW), comprising MicroMegas (MMs) and small-strip Thin Gap Chambers (sTGCs), will upgrade the ATLAS muon system for a high background environment. Particularly, the NSW trigger will reduce the rate of fake triggers coming from background tracks in the endcap. [...]

Trigger Data Serializer ASIC chip for the ATLAS New Small Wheel sTGC Detector / Wang, Jinhong (University of Michigan, Department of Physics)
The small-strip Thin-Gap Chambers (sTGC) will be used as both trigger and precision tracking muon detectors for the Phase-I upgrade of the ATLAS New Small Wheel (NSW) muon detector. Signals from both the sTGC pad and strip detectors will be first read out by the Amplifier-Shaper-Discriminator (ASD) chip designed by the Brookhaven National Laboratory, and then collected and transmitted by a Trigger Data Serializer (TDS) chip at a rate of 4.8 Gbps to other related circuits. The development of the Front-End Boards for the small-strip Thin Gap Chambers detector system of the ATLAS Muon New Small Wheel upgrade / Miao, P (CUST, SKLPDE) ; Li, F (CUST, SKLPDE) ; Guan, L (Michigan U.) ; Ravinovich, I (Weizmann Inst.) ; Zhou, S (CUST, SKLPDE) ; Zhang, N J (CUST, SKLPDE) ; Zhang, Z L (CUST, SKLPDE) ; Wang, X X (CUST, SKLPDE) ; Jin, G (CUST, SKLPDE)
The ATLAS experiment at CERN is scheduled to replace the innermost station of its Muon Spectrometer in the forward region during its Phase-I upgrade in order to enhance the capabilities on triggering and tracking of high transverse momentum muons towards high luminosity LHC runs. The New Small Wheel (NSW), a completely new detector system to be built, is composed of two novel gaseous detectors: Micro-mesh Gaseous Structure (Micromegas) and the small-strip Thin Gap Chamber (sTGC). Large Area Precision Cathode Boards for ATLAS Muon Upgrades / Shaked, Dan (Department of Particle Physics, The Weizmann Institute of Science) ; Sheppard, Damian Joseph (TRIUMF) /ATLAS Collaboration
The largest phase-1 upgrade project for the ATLAS Muon System is the replacement of the present first station in the forward regions with the so-called New Small Wheels (NSWs) during the long-LHC shutdown in 2019/20. The NSWs will be equipped with eight layers of small-strip thin gap chambers (sTGC) arranged in multilayers of two quadruplets, for a total active surface area of more than 2500 m^2. [...]
