GRADING POLICY AND COURSE REQUIREMENTS FOR

PICKENS HIGH AGRICULTURE EDUCATION


As an Agriculture Education Student, you will have the opportunity to participate in
many hands-on activities to make learning, hopefully, fun and interesting. As a student in
the program, you will be expected to participate in two important program components,
FFA and SAE both of these will be explained as a part of the class. Each of these
components when combined with our class activities are what make our program so
unique.
Grading Policy
40% Formative Assignments (Daily Work, Unit Worksheets, Class Notes etc.)
60% Summative Assignments (Unit Test, Lab Test, SAE Project)
Basic Agricultural Science and Technology
The course introduces the major areas of scientific agricultural production and research;
presents problem solving lessons and introductory skills and knowledge in agricultural
science and agri-related technologies. Classroom and laboratory activities are
supplemented through supervised agricultural experiences and leadership programs and
activities

Explore, develop, and implement the Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) program by researching careers

Determine and illustrate safety in the agriculture lab and agriculture worksites.
AFNR-BAS-6
Describe soil formation and management and assess its relevance to plant/animal
production and natural resources management.

Demonstrate knowledge of physics used in agriculture as it relates to work, power, simple machines, and both
past and present machinery used in the agricultural industry.
AFNR-BAS-8
Identify the different areas of agriscience and relate the scientific classification system to organize and research
the agriscience field.
AFNR-BAS-9
Define major components of the animal industry and outline the development of the
resulting products, services, and careers.
AFNR-BAS-10
Demonstrate basic skills in natural resource management.

Apply principles of science to food processing to provide a safe, wholesome and nutritious food supply.

Apply principles of environmental science as it relates to agricultural production and
sustainability.

Explain and demonstrate basic plant science principles including plant health, growth and reproduction.

IN THIS CLASS THERE ARE A FEW GUIDELINES WE NEED TO BE AWARE OF
AND PREPARED TO FOLLOW FOR THE BENEFIT OF EVERYONE INVOLVED.
THESE EXPECTATIONS SHOULD BE FAMILIAR TO YOU ALREADY, BUT LETS
GO OVER THEM ANYWAY.
1. QUIET TALK IS ALLOWED DURING SEAT WORK TIMES BUT IS ONLY
ALLOWED, IF IT IS ABOUT THE TOPIC AT HAND, DURING CLASS
LECTURES/DISCUSSION.
2. MATERIALS SHOULD BE BROUGHT TO CLASS EACH AND EVERYDAY.
3. ASSIGNMENTS SHOULD BE TURNED-IN, NEATLY WRITTEN, ON TIME,
NAME AND DATE ON EACH PAGE.
4. YOU SHOULD BE PREPARRED TO FOLLOW THE DRESS CODE WHEN
PRESENT IN THIS CLASSROOM.
5. THIS ROOM IS NOT THE CAFETERIA, ONLY DRINKS WILL BE
ALLOWED AND THIS WILL BE CHANGED TO WATER ONLY IF ANY
PROBLEMS OCCUR.
6. THIS ROOM IS ALSO NOT YOUR BEDROOM, YOU ARE EXPECTED TO
BE AWAKE, AWARE OF WHATS TAKING PLACE AND READY TO
PARTICIPATE.
7. PLEASE HELP KEEP YOUR AREA NEAT AND ORDERLY.
8. THE PROCEDURE FOR RESTROOM VISITS IS NO ONE IS ALLOWED TO
LEAVE THE ROOM THE FIRST 15 MINUTES OR THE LAST 15 MINUTES
OF CLASS. USE RESTROOM AT BREAK. EMERGENCIES WILL BE
ACCOMODATED UNTIL THEY BECOME HABIT!

SAE (Supervised agricultural experience)


Students will be required to complete a project outside of school hours relating
to agriculture. A total of 15 hours documented, with dates, times, and pictures
will be required for the project. Students will deliver the presentation by power
point, poster board, and or video.
