Configure your applicant source tracking code

Last updated: 3 months ago

When you set up Applicant Source Tracking, the URL parameter will be added to the apply URLs for your jobs on LinkedIn. Applicant Source Tracking lets customers measure whether candidates who click their LinkedIn Jobs complete the application in their ATS. It’s standard for job boards to push customers to implement tracking so that their hiring outcomes are accurately credited.

Each ATS has slightly different requirements for applicant tracking, and some require each customer to configure their own. A source code will have two parts:

  • Parameter – The parameter tells your ATS to track the source where the link originated (examples include: Source=, src=, Gh_src=, and Jvst=).
  • Code – The code tells you where the traffic is coming from (ex: LinkedIn, LI_Jobs, LI_postings, and Bdfd434).

When you combine the parameter and code together (ex: source=linkedin), you have a unique source code for tracking applicants who found your job on LinkedIn.

Add or edit an applicant source tracking code or edit a configured source

To add or edit an applicant source tracking code or edit a configured source:

  1. Click on your profile picture at the top of the homepage in Recruiter.

  2. Click Product settings in the drop-down menu.

  3. Click Job posting on the left-hand side.

  4. Next to Job sources for automated job postings, click View/Edit

  5. Click the more icon next to the configured source you want to edit and click Edit source.

  6. Fill out the Edit ATS source window with the following information:

    • ATS or other job source
    • Applicant source tracking code or if applicant source tracking does not apply for this source
  7. Click Save changes.

Add a source code for a new job source

To add a source code for a new job source:

  1. Click on your profile picture at the top of the homepage in Recruiter.
  2. Click Product settings in the drop-down menu.
  3. Click Job posting on the left-hand side.
  4. Next to Job sources for automated job postings, click View/Edit
  5. Click + Add job source
  6. The applicant source tracking code may auto-fill based on your selected ATS or you may be asked to reach out to your ATS vendor to confirm the code.

Important to know

It may take up to 12 hours for this to be added to all your apply URLs.

Applicant tracking does not apply

If applicant tracking doesn't apply to your ATS source, you'll need to specify that in settings:

  1. From the Recruiter homepage, hover over your profile picture and select Product settings.
  2. Click the Job posting tab in the left rail.
  3. Under Configured sources, select the Options button on the right side.
  4. Click Edit source.
  5. Select the box for Applicant source tracking code does not apply for this source in the Edit ATS Source window.

Important to know

Your source tracking code may fail to be added if we're unable to reach the apply URL with the source code appended. If your code is correct and your apply URLs are working with it, you can click into the job source edit panel to override this failure and append the source tracking code.

The table below provides tracking parameters where available, and links to each ATS’s guidelines for applicant tracking where parameters haven’t been provided. Note: If your ATS has one of the standard source code formats listed below, we may have already added tracking for you. Please check Product Settings to confirm.
