Beam induced RF heating / Salvant, B (CERN) ; Aberle, O (CERN) ; Arduini, G (CERN) ; Assmann, R (CERN) ; Baglin, V (CERN) ; Barnes, M J (CERN) ; Bartmann, W (CERN) ; Baudrenghien, P (CERN) ; Berrig, O (CERN) ; Bracco, C (CERN) et al.
After the 2011 run, actions were put in place during the 2011/2012 winter stop to limit beam induced radio frequency (RF) heating of LHC components. However, some components could not be changed during this short stop and continued to represent a limitation throughout 2012. [...]

Update on Beam Induced RF Heating in the LHC / Salvant, B (CERN) ; Aberle, O (CERN) ; Arduini, G (CERN) ; Assmann, R (CERN) ; Baglin, V (CERN) ; Barnes, M (CERN) ; Bartmann, W (CERN) ; Baudrenghien, P (CERN) ; Berrig, O (CERN) ; Bracco, C (CERN) et al.
Since June 2011 the rapid increase of the luminosity performance of the LHC has come at the expense of both increased temperature and pressure of specific, near-beam, LHC equipment. In some cases, this beam induced heating has caused delays while equipment cool-down, beam dumps and even degradation of some devices. [...]

Beam induced heating / Salvant, B (CERN) ; Aberle, O (CERN) ; Arduini, G (CERN) ; Assmann, R (CERN) ; Baglin, V (CERN) ; Barnes, M J (CERN) ; Baudrenghien, P (CERN) ; Bracco, C (CERN) ; Bruce, R (CERN) ; Bertarelli, A (CERN) et al.
In 2011, the rapid increase of the luminosity performance of LHC came at the expense of increased temperature and pressure readings on several near-beam LHC equipments. In some cases, this beam induced heating was suspected to cause beam dumps and even degradation of the equipment. [...]

"What You Get" - Orbit and tune measurements and feedback / Andersen, M (CERN) ; Boccard, C (CERN) ; Bozyigit, S (CERN) ; Calvo, E (CERN) ; Favier, M (CERN) ; Fullerton, J (CERN) ; Gasior, M (CERN) ; Jackson, S (CERN) ; Jensen, L (CERN) ; Jones, R (CERN) et al.
The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) has now been operated successfully for 3 years relying on the good performance of its beam instrumentation, including position and tune monitors and their respective feedback systems. This contribution gives an overview of the performance and limitations of the current orbit and tune systems. [...]

Lessons Learnt and Mitigation Measures for the CERN LHC Equipment with RF fingers / Métral, E (CERN) ; Aberle, O (CERN) ; Assmann, R W (CERN) ; Baglin, V (CERN) ; Barnes, M J (CERN) ; Berrig, O E (CERN) ; Bertarelli, A (CERN) ; Bregliozzi, G (CERN) ; Calatroni, S (CERN) ; Carra, F (CERN) et al.
Beam-induced RF heating has been observed in several LHC components when the bunch/beam intensity was increased and/or the bunch length reduced. In particular eight bellows, out of the ten double-bellow modules present in the machine in 2011, were found with the spring, which should keep the RF fingers in good electrical contact with the central insert, broken. What you get? Transverse and Longitudinal Distributions / Roncarolo, F (CERN) ; Andreazza, W (CERN) ; Bart-Pedersen, S (CERN) ; Boccardi, A (CERN) ; Bravin, E (CERN) ; Dehning, B (CERN) ; Emery, J (CERN) ; Goldblatt, A (CERN) ; Gras, J-J (CERN) ; Guerrero, A (CERN) et al.
The transverse beam emittances of the LHC proton and ion beams can be inferred by measuring the beam sizes with Wire Scanner (WS), Synchrotron Radiation (BSRT) and Beam Gas Ionization (BGI) monitors. The Abort Gap Monitor (AGM) and the Longitudinal Density Monitor (LDM) are used to characterize the longitudinal distributions. [...]

Additional shielding behind the LHCb muon detector / Paluch, R (Warsaw University of Technology, Poland) ; Oldeman, R (Sezione INFN di Cagliari, Italy) ; Schmidt, B (CERN)
This note presents studies on the effect of backsplash hits in the last station of the LHCb muon detector (M5) and the results of Monte Carlo simulations of various additional shielding behind M5. These particles are delayed in comparison with normal muons coming from the interaction point, so the backsplashes are late by up to 50 ns [...]

Vacuum Acceptance Tests for the UHV Room Temperature Vacuum System of the LHC during LS1 / Cattenoz, G (CERN) ; Baglin, V (CERN) ; Bregliozzi, G (CERN) ; Calegari, D (CERN) ; Gallagher, J (CERN) ; Marraffa, A (CERN) ; Chiggiato, P (CERN)
During the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) first long shut down (LS1), a large number of vacuum tests are carried out on consolidated or newly fabricated devices. In such a way, the vacuum compatibility is assessed before installation in the UHV system of the LHC. [...]

Vacuum performance and lessons for 2012 / Baglin, V (CERN) ; Bregliozzi, G (CERN) ; Jimenez, J M (CERN) ; Lanza, G (CERN)
During the LHC run 2011, a tremendous progress has been made towards the machine operation with design parameters. In the same time, the run confirmed the sensitivity of the beam vacuum system to the machine parameters. [...]
