Building A High Performance Parallel File System Using Grid Datafarm and ROOT I/O / Morita, Y. (KEK, Tsukuba) ; Sato, H. (KEK, Tsukuba) ; Watase, Y. (KEK, Tsukuba) ; Tatebe, Osamu (AIST, Tsukuba) ; Sekiguchi, S. (AIST, Tsukuba) ; Matsuoka, S. (Tokyo Inst. Tech.) ; Soda, N. (SRA, Nagoya) ; Dell'Acqua, A. (CERN)
Sheer amount of petabyte scale data foreseen in the LHC experiments require a careful consideration of the persistency design and the system design in the world-wide distributed computing. Event parallelism of the HENP data analysis enables us to take maximum advantage of the high performance cluster computing and networking when we keep the parallelism both in the data processing phase, in the data management phase, and in the data transfer phase. Primary Numbers Database for ATLAS Detector Description Parameters / Vaniachine, A (Argonne) ; Eckmann, S (Argonne) ; Malon, D (Argonne) ; Nevski, P (Brookhaven) ; Wenaus, T (Brookhaven)
We present the design and the status of the database for detector description parameters in ATLAS experiment. The ATLAS Primary Numbers are the parameters defining the detector geometry and digitization in simulations, as well as certain reconstruction parameters. [...]

An I/O Analysis of HPC Workloads on CephFS and Lustre / Chiusole, Alberto (Unlisted, IT) ; Cozzini, Stefano (SISSA, Trieste) ; van der Ster, Daniel (CERN) ; Lamanna, Massimo (CERN) ; Giuliani, Graziano (ICTP, Trieste)
In this contribution we compare the performance of the Input/Output load (I/O) of a High-Performance Computing (HPC) application on two different File Systems: CephFS and Lustre; our goal is to assess whether CephFS could be considered a valid choice for intense HPC applications. We perform our analysis using a real HPC workload, namely RegCM, a climate simulation application, and IOR, a synthetic benchmark application, to simulate several I/O patterns using different I/O parallel libraries (MPI-IO, HDF5, PnetCDF). Evolution of the ROOT Tree I/O / Blomer, Jakob (CERN) ; Canal, Philippe (Fermilab) ; Naumann, Axel (CERN) ; Piparo, Danilo (CERN)
The ROOT TTree data format encodes hundreds of petabytes of High Energy and Nuclear Physics events. Its columnar layout drives rapid analyses, as only those parts ("branches") that are really used in a given analysis need to be read from storage. [...]

I/O in the ATLAS multithreaded framework / Cranshaw, Jack (Argonne National Laboratory) ; Malon, David (Argonne National Laboratory) ; Nowak, Marcin (Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL)) ; Van Gemmeren, Peter (Argonne National Laboratory) /ATLAS Collaboration
Scalable multithreading poses challenges to I/O, and the performance of a thread-safe I/O strategy may depend upon many factors, including I/O latencies, whether tasks are CPU- or I/O-intensive, and thread count. In a multithreaded framework, an I/O infrastructure must efficiently supply event data to and collect it from many threads processing multiple events in flight. [...]
