A 65 nm pixel readout ASIC with quick transverse momentum discrimination capabilities for the CMS Tracker at HL-LHC / Ceresa, Davide (CERN) ; Kaplon, J (CERN) ; Francisco, R (CERN) ; Caratelli, Alessandro (Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne ; CERN) ; Kloukinas, Konstantinos (CERN) ; Marchioro, Alessandro (CERN) /for the CMS Collaboration
A readout ASIC for the hybrid pixel detector with the capability of performing quick recognition of particles with high transverse momentum has been designed for the requirements of the CMS Outer Tracker at the High Luminosity LHC. The particle momentum dicrimination capability represents the main challenge for this design together with the low power requirement: the constraint of low mass for the new tracker dictates a total power budget of less than 100\,mW/cm$^2$. [...]

MPA-SSA, design and test of a 65nm ASIC-based system for particle tracking at HL-LHC featuring on-chip particle discrimination / Ceresa, Davide (CERN) ; Bergamin, Gianmario (CERN) ; Caratelli, Alessandro (CERN) ; Kaplon, Jan (CERN) ; Kloukinas, Kostas (CERN) ; Scarfì, Simone (EPFL-IPEQ, Lausanne) ; Leblebici, Yusuf (EPFL-IPEQ, Lausanne) /CMS Tracker Group Collaboration
Particle tracking detectors for High Energy Physics need a new readout technique to cope with the increase of the collision rate foreseen for the High Luminosity LHC upgrade. In particular, the selection of interesting physics events at the first trigger stage becomes extremely challenging at high luminosity, not only because of the rate increase, but also because the selection algorithms become inefficient in high pileup conditions. [...]

Performance characterization and radiation tolerance evaluation of the SSA2 ASIC, the strip sensor readout ASIC of the CMS Outer Tracker at the HL-LHC / Caratelli, A (CERN) ; Bergamin, G (CERN) ; Ceresa, D (CERN) ; Kaplon, J (CERN) ; Kloukinas, K (CERN) ; Nedergaard, C (Aarhus U.) ; Nookala, A (CERN ; Vienna, Tech. U.) ; Scarfi, S (CERN) /CMS Collaboration
This contribution presents the results of the performance characterization and radiation tolerance evaluation of the SSA2 ASIC, the short-strip readout ASIC for the CMS Outer-Tracker PS-module. The ASIC performance is characterised by different temperatures and operating conditions, at the die level as well as at the wafer level. [...]

Characterization of the MPA prototype, a 65 nm pixel readout ASIC with on-chip quick transverse momentum discrimination capabilities / Ceresa, Davide (CERN) ; Caratelli, Alessandro (CERN) ; De Clercq, Jarne Theo (Vrije U., Brussels) ; Dena Giovinazzo ; Haranko, Mykyta (DESY) ; Jan Kaplon ; Kloukinas, Konstantinos (CERN) ; Jan Murdzek ; Scarfi', Simone (CERN)
The first prototype of the full-size, full-functionality Macro Pixel ASIC has been produced in a 65~nm technology employing radiation tolerant techniques. It is a pixel readout ASIC designed for the Phase-2 upgrade of the CMS Outer Tracker detector. [...]

Short-Strip ASIC (SSA): A 65nm silicon-strip readout ASIC for the Pixel-Strip (PS) module of the CMS Outer Tracker detector upgrade at HL-LHC / Caratelli, Alessandro (Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne ; CERN) ; Ceresa, Davide (CERN) ; Kaplon, Jan (CERN) ; Kloukinas, Kostas (CERN) ; Leblebici, Yusuf (Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne) ; Murdzek, Jan (CERN) ; Scarfi, Simone (CERN ; Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne)
The Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) experiment at CERN is foreseen to receive a substantial upgrade of the outer tracker detector and its front-end readout electronics, requiring higher granularity and readout bandwidth to handle the large number of pileup events in the High-Luminosity LHC. For this reason, the entire tracking system will be replaced with new detectors featuring higher radiation tolerance and ability to handle higher data rates and readout bandwidths. [...]

Low-power SEE hardening techniques and error rate evaluation in 65nm readout ASICs / Caratelli, Alessandro (CERN) ; Scarfi, Simone (CERN ; Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne) ; Bergamin, Gianmario (CERN ; Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne) ; Ceresa, Davide (CERN) ; Clerq, Jarne De (Vrije U., Brussels) ; Kloukinas, Kostas (CERN) ; Leblebici, Yusuf (Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne) /CMS Tracker Group Collaboration
Single event radiation effects represent one of the main challenges for digital designs exposed to ionizing particles in high energy physics detectors. Radiation hardening techniques are based on redundancy, leading to a significant increase in power consumption and area overhead. [...]
