Study of longitudinal mechanisms and correlations in the definition of RFQ transverse acceptance / Montoya-Soto, G R (Guanajuato U.) ; Lombardi, A M (CERN) ; Bellodi, G (CERN) ; Valerio-Lizarraga, C A (Sinaloa U.) ; Cuna, G H I Maury (Guanajuato U.)
The Radio Frequency Quadrupole (RFQ) is a linear accelerator that focuses, bunches, and accelerates a continuous input of charged particles while preserving the beam emittance. This paper focuses on the study of the transverse acceptance of an RFQ and how this concept can be used in the design of frontend structures. [...]

Linac4 Low Energy Beam Measurements with Negative Hydrogen / Scrivens, R (CERN) ; Bellodi, G (CERN) ; Crettiez, O (CERN) ; Dimov, V (CERN) ; Gerard, D (CERN) ; Granemann Souza, E (CERN) ; Guida, R (CERN) ; Hansen, J (CERN) ; Lallement, J B (CERN) ; Lettry, J (CERN) et al.
Linac4, a 160 MeV normal-conducting H- linear accelerator, is the first step in the upgrade of the beam intensity available from the LHC proton injectors at CERN. The Linac4 Low Energy Beam Transport (LEBT) line from the pulsed 2 MHz RF driven ion source, to the 352 MHz RFQ has been built and installed at a test stand, and has been used to transport and match to the RFQ a pulsed 14 mA H- beam at 45 keV. Status and plans for Linac4 installation and commissioning / Vretenar, M (CERN) ; Akroh, A (CERN) ; Arnaudon, L (CERN) ; Baudrenghien, P (CERN) ; Bellodi, G (CERN) ; Broere, J (CERN) ; Brunner, O (CERN) ; Comblin, J F (CERN) ; Coupard, J (CERN) ; Dimov, V A (CERN) et al.
Linac4 is a normal conducting 160 MeV Hˉ linear accelerator presently being installed and progressively commissioned at CERN. It will replace the ageing 50 MeV Linac2 as injector of the PS Booster (PSB), increasing at the same time its brightness by a factor of two thanks to the higher injection energy. [...]

Linac4 is a 160 MeV normal-conducting linear accelerator for negative Hydrogen ions (H−), which will replace the 50 MeV proton Linac (Linac2) as linear injector for the CERN accelerators. The low energy part, comprising a 45 keV Low Energy Beam Transport system (LEBT), a 3 MeV Radiofrequency Quadrupole (RFQ) and a Medium Energy Beam Transport (MEBT) is being assembled in a dedicated test stand for pre-commissioning with a proton beam. Space Charge Compensation in the Linac4 Low Energy Beam Transport Line with Negative Hydrogen Ions / Valerio-Lizarraga, C (CERN ; Sonora U.) ; Lallement, J B (CERN) ; Leon-Monzon, I (Sinaloa U.) ; Lettry, J (CERN) ; Midttun, O (CERN ; U. Oslo (main)) ; Scrivens, R (CERN)
The space charge effect of low energy, unbunched ion beams can be compensated by the trapping of ions or electrons into the beam potential. This has been studied for the 45 keV negative hydrogen ion beam in the CERN Linac4 Low Energy Beam Tranport (LEBT) using the package IBSimu1, which allows the space charge calculation of the particle trajectories. Negative ion beam space charge compensation by residual gas / Valerio-Lizarraga, Cristhian A (Sonora U.) ; Leon-Monzon, Ildefonso (ECFM, Sinaloa) ; Scrivens, Richard (CERN)
The space charge of intense unbunched ion beams can be compensated by the ions created when the beam ionizes the residual gas, which creates a source of secondary particles inside the beam pipe. For negative ion beams, the effect of the beam electric field is to expel the electrons to the beam pipe walls, while the positive ions are trapped and start to be accumulated. [...]
