Main part of a Computer

• A computer is made up of
different parts.
• Each part of a computer
performs a specific function.
•The four main parts
of a computer are:

•Monitor
•CPU Box
•Keyboard
•Mouse
Monitor
•A monitor looks like a
television.
• It shows what you type or
draw on a computer.
• It is also used to watch
movies.
CPU Box
•CPU stands for Central Processing Unit.
It is present inside the CPU box.

•CPU is the brain of a computer.

• It stores information and makes all


parts of the computer work.
Keyboard

•A computer keyboard has many


buttons.
•These buttons are called keys.

• You press the keys to type numbers


and letters. This is called typing.
Mouse
•The mouse of a computer
is a pointing device.
•It helps to point different
things on a computer.
•It has two buttons and a
wheel in the center.

•A computer mouse looks like a real mouse because


of its shape.
•It has a long wire connected to the CPU box.
•This wire looks like the tail of a mouse.
•A computer mouse comes in different shapes, sizes
and colors.

•Speakers
•Microphone
•Headphones

•All the additional parts also have specific functions.


Printer
•A printer is used to print information that
you see on the monitor onto paper.
•Printers that print in black and white color
are called black and white printers.
•Printers that print in any color are called
color printers.

• The information on the computer is
called a soft copy.
Speakers

Speakers are used to hear sound


effects or listen to music on the
computer.
Microphone and
Headphones
•A microphone is used to record different sounds
into the computer. It is also known as mike.

•Headphones are used when you want to listen to


something without disturbing the people around.
These days, headphones come with an attached
microphone.
Joystick

A joystick makes playing


computer games a lot
more fun.
Scanner

A scanner copies pictures and


text from paper onto the
computer.

Camera

A web camera is used to


take live photos and
videos.
CD/ DVD
Drive
•CD/ DVD drives are used to play the
CDs or DVDs.
•CD stands for compact Disc.
•DVD stands for Digital Versatile
Disc.
•CD and DVD are circular disc which
store information.
UPS
•UPS stands for Universal Power
Supply.
•It keeps the computer working
when the power supply is OFF.
•This gives time to save your work
and switch off the computer when
there is a power cut.
