Electrical interaction and Coulomb’s law

Exercise1 :

The hydrogen atom consists of an electron of mass carrying a charge


and a proton of mass with a charge
. Assuming that the electron moves around the proton in a circular orbit of
radius . Calculate :
1- The Coulomb force of attraction exerted by the proton on the electron .
2- The force of gravitational attraction which is exerted between the two particles
and compare it with that in question 1. What it is the origin of the movement of
the electron around the nucleus?

Two identical conducting spheres (S1) and (S2) carrying charges q 1 and q2 are brought
together into contact and then separated.
- Calculate the new values of the charges q1’ and q2’ in the following cases:
a) q1 = 6.10-6 C; q2 = 0 C
b) q1 = 2.10-6 C; q2 = 6.10-6 C
c) q1 = 2.10-6 C; q2 = - 8.10-6 C
- Indicate in each case how the transfer of charges (electrons) takes place

Exercise 3: (homework)

Consider the system of charges, assumed to be point charges, represented in the figure
below. The charges q1 and q2 are fixed, positive and distant d from each other. A charge
q3 , which can move along the X'OX axis. (q3 always remains between the two charges q1
and q2 ).
1- Give the expression of the force exerted on q3 .

along the OZ axis at a distance z from the center.
