Chapter 23
Electric Field
1) Coulomb’s Law:-
1. Let q the charge you want to find resultant force applied on.
2. Find the forces between each charge and q separately.
3. Determine the direction of each force.
4. Draw two axis with q as origin.
5. Resolve the forces that are out of axis.
6. Apply the following equations to find the resultant force
and its direction.
∑ ∑
⃗ √
Example 1:-
The electron and proton of a hydrogen atom are separated (on the average)
by a distance of approximately 5.3 × 1011 m. Find the magnitudes of the
electric force.(Note the charge of the proton is 1.6× 10-19 C )
(8.2 × 10-8 N)
Example 2:-

Solving Strategy for the problems with many charges at a point in the
electric field:-
1) Find the Electric for each charge at the point separately using the
Equation:-
2) Insert a positive charge in the point and find the direction of each
electric field.
3) Draw two axis with the point as origin.
4) Resolve the electric field vector that are out of axis.

its direction.
