1. A dam has a parabolic shape z / z 0= as shown in Figure below, with x o = 10 ft and
x0
z o = 24 ft. The fluid is water, specific weight = 62.4 lbf /f t 3 and atmospheric pressure
may be omitted. Compute the forces of FH and FV on the dam and their line of action.
The width of the dam is 50 ft.

2. The triangular gate CDE in Fig. below is hinged along CD and is opened by a normal
force P applied at E. It holds a liquid of specific gravity 0.82 above it and is open to the
atmosphere on its lower side. Neglecting the weight of the gate, find (a) the Force
Exerted on the gate, (b) the location of the center of pressure; and (c) the force P needed
to open the gate.

3. If the velocity of flow in a 75-mm diameter fire hose is 0.5 m/s, what is the velocity in a
25 mm diameter jet issuing from a nozzle attached at the end of the pipe. Compute also
the power available in the jet.

4. Compute the hydrostatic force and its line of action on semicylindrical indentation ABC
in Fig. below per meter of width into the paper. (15)
5. A 100 mm diameter plunger is being pushed at 60 mm/s into a tank filled with oil having
SG of 0.82. If the fluid is incompressible, how many N/s of oil is being forced out at a
30-mm diameter hole?

6. The tank in Fig. 8-9 is admitting water at 100 N/s and ejecting gasoline (s.g. = 0.69) at 52
N/s. If all three fluids are incompressible, how much air is passing through the vent?
Assume Vent 3 is going out.

7. A pipe carrying oil of specific gravity of 0.877 changes in size from 150 mm at section 1
and 450 mm at section 2. Section 1 is 3.6 m below section 2 and the pressures are 90 kPa
and 60 kPa respectively. If the discharge is 150 L/s, determine the head lost and the
direction of flow.

8. In a piping system in Idols company Oil (s.g. = 0.84) is flowing in a pipe under the
conditions shown in Figure below. If the total head loss (h,) from point 1 to point 2 is 3.0
ft, find the pressure at point 2. (15 points)

9. A 20 hp suction pump operating at 70% efficiency draws water from a suction line whose
diameter is 200 mm and discharges into the air through a line whose diameter is 150 mm.
The velocity in the 150 mm line is 3.6 m/s. If the pressure at point A in the suction pipe is
34 kPa below the atmosphere, where A is 1.8 m below B on the 150 mm line, determine
the maximum elevation above B to which water can be raised assuming a head loss of 3
m due to friction.
10. A large tank contains compressed air, gasoline at a specific gravity of 0.68, light oil at a
specific gravity of 0.80, and water, as shown in the Figure below. The pressure P of the
air is 120 kPa GAGE. If we neglect friction, what is the mass flow of oil from a 20-mm-
diameter jet?

11. A Fishpond gate 6ft wide and 9 ft is hinged at the top and held closed by water pressure
as shown in the figure. What is the horizontal force applied at the bottom of the gate is
required to open it? Neglect the weight of the gate.

12. The pump shown draws water from reservoir A at elevation 10 m and lifts it to reservoir
B at elevation 60 m. The loss of head from A to 1 is two times the velocity head in the
200 mm diameter pipe and the loss of head from 2 to B is ten times the velocity head in
the 150 mm diameter pipe. Determine the rated horsepower of the pump and the pressure
heads at 1 and 2 in meters when the discharge is 0.03 m3/s.
13. A square plate having one of its sides equal to 3 m. is immersed in a water surface in a
vertical position such that the two edges of the square would be horizontal so that the
center of pressure shall be 8 cm. lower from the center of gravity. How far below the
water's surface should the upper plate be submerged?
14. Gate AB is 7m wide into the paper. Compute the force F required to prevent rotation
about the hinge at B. Neglect atmospheric pressure.

15. Water flows through a 75 mm diameter pipe at a velocity of 3 m/sec. Find (a) the volume
flow rate in m3/sec and lit/sec, (b) the mass flow rate in kg/sec, and (c) the weight flow
rate in N/sec.

Hi Idol, Gusto ko lang mag thank you sa isang nbuong sem na nakasama kita. Sana ay madami ikaw natutunan sa akin at sana y madala mo iyon hanggang sa maging Engineer ka na. I am, wishing you always the best all good in Life. Kung ano
man ang mararating mo in the future stay humble and kind. Wag lalaki ang ulo. Salamat sa isang napakasayang Semester na nakasama kita. Mag iingat lagi at mag babait. Kaunti na lang makukuha nyo na din yung titulong ENGINEER wag na
wag na lang gagagwa ng mga bagay na ikakasama. Manatili sa tuwid at tapat na daan. Walang napapahamak sa taong marunong sumunod. Godbless IDOL!! Goodluck!
