REAL IMAGE:-

When a beam of light from an object actually meet at a point then the
image formed is known as real image.
VIRTUAL IMAGE:-
When a beam of light from an object does not meet at a point and
appears to diverge from a point then the image formed is known as
virtual image.
DIFFERNTIATE BETWEEN REAL IMAGE AND VIRTUAL
IMAGE:-
Real Image Virtual Image
Real image can be caught on a Virtual image cannot be caught
screen on screen
Real image is formed by actual Virtual image is formed by the
meet of reflected light reflected rays diverged from a
point
It is always inverted It is always erect
It is formed in front of the mirror It is formed in back of the mirror

SPHERIVCAL / CURVED MIRROR

A mirror whose reflecting surface is curved is called spherical mirror.
There are 2 types of spherical mirror.
1. Concave mirror
2. Convex mirror

CONCAVE MIRROR
concave mirror is a part of sphere whose inner surface is
polished and acts as a mirror

1
CONVEX MIRROR:-
Convex mirror is a part of sphere whose outer surface is polished and
act as a mirror

CENTRE OF CURVATURE:-
Centre of curvature is the centre of the sphere which forms the
spherical
mirror
and it is
denoted
as “c”

2
RADIUS OF CURVATURE:-
Radius of curvature is the radius of the sphere which forms the
spherical mirrors a part and it is denoted as ‘R’.

POLE:-
Pole is the mid-point of the spherical mirror

3
APERTURE:-
Aperture is the part of the spherical mirror which is exposed to the
reflection of light is known as aperture. Normally it is equal to (the
diameter of the spherical mirror) the reflecting surface of the mirror.

Aperture

4
PRINCIPAL AXIS:-
Principal axis is the straight line passing through the centre of
curvature and pole is known as principal axis. It is extended to both
sides.

PRINCIPAL FOCUS AND FOCAL LENGTH:-

For a concave mirror light rays parallel to principal axis after
reflection they will pass through a fixed point on principal axis. This
point is called focus. The distance between pole and focus is known
as focal length.
For a convex mirror the light parallel to the principal axis after
reflection they are appear to diverge from a point on the principal
axis. This point is known as focus of convex mirror.
