8.SLS Crack and Deflection - Example

This document provides an example of checking deflection for a simply supported beam with a rectangular cross-section of 300x650mm and a span of 7m that is simply reinforced. The beam has a concrete compressive strength of 30 N/mm^2, required steel area of 1915 mm^2, and distance from the center of gravity of reinforcement to the bottom of 51 mm. The document calculates if the deflection is under the admissible limit of span/250.

SLS crack and deflection - example

Consider simple supported beam with rectangular cross-section of 300x650 with span
equal to 7m. The cross-section is simply reinforced (=0).
Check the deflection.
Other input data: fck=30 N/mm2, As,req=1915 mm2 (the required steel area), a=51 mm
(the distance between the center of gravity of reinforcement to the bottom face of the
cross-section).

Deflection is assumed to be under the admissible limit of span/250.
