Brooke Shields has revealed that Tom Cruise 'eventually' apologized for ranting about her use of antidepressants in a shock 2005 interview.
Cruise, now 61, was widely slammed when he weighed in on Shields, 59, admitting using the drugs during her battle with postpartum depression in book Down Came The Rain during a chat on The Today Show,
He said: 'Here is a woman, and I care about Brooke Shields because I think she is an incredibly talented woman. You look at, where has her career gone?... These drugs are dangerous.
'The thing that I'm saying about Brooke is that there's misinformation. She doesn't understand the history of psychiatry... she doesn't know what these drugs are, and for her to promote it is irresponsible.'
He added the drugs 'don't cure anything' and said: ''You can use vitamins to help a woman through those things' - leading Shields to hit back at the time and take aim at his Scientology beliefs: 'Has he had a baby? Tom should stick to saving the world from aliens and let women decide which treatment is best for them.'
The Pretty Baby star wrote in new tome, Brooke Shields Is Not Allowed to Get Old: Thoughts on Aging as a Woman that the Top Gun star had regretted his words and said sorry to her.

She wrote: 'It wasn’t the world’s best apology, but it’s what he was capable of, and I accepted it.'
'Had Tom taken a public swing at me before I became a mother, I probably would have stayed quiet. I would have ignored his ridiculous rant.
'I might have been content to sit back while this very famous man hijacked my experience to advance his own (deluded) agenda. I would have been satisfied that his behavior would speak for itself.
'A decade earlier — I might have even regretted sharing my story or felt insecure that maybe my career was stalling while a powerful male movie star was singling me out, sure that I’d never stand a chance in that fight.'
She said she was not only 'sticking up for herself' against 'irrational and dangerous comments from an unschooled actor who was speaking way out of his depth' but also 'spurr[ing] discussions on the reality and prevalence of postpartum depression.'
In 2006, Shields revealed Cruise had come to her house to personally apologize.
She told Jay Leno: 'He came over to my house, and he gave me a heartfelt apology. And he apologized for bringing me into the whole thing and for everything that happened.'
At the time Cruise's spokesman said 'he has not changed his position about antidepressants, which, as evidenced by the black label warnings issued by the FDA on these types of drugs, are unhealthy.'

In 2023 Shields revealed Cruise had mysteriously stopped sending her a coconut cake every Christmas.
The Manhattan native speaking to People, said that she 'was on the list for a while' until the cakes suddenly stopped.
Cruise annually sends those in his Hollywood circle the $126 bundt cake put out by Doan's Bakery in Woodland Hills, California, according to the publication.
The actress and model said she 'was very happy' about receiving the cake each holiday season.
'I was on the list for a while - I had a good 10-year run, and I got the coconut cake every year,' said the actress, who has been on the promotional trail for her new Hulu doc Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields.
Shields noted to the magazine that the cakes were initially a gift from Cruise, his ex-wife Katie Holmes, 44, and their daughter Suri, 16, and that he took the names of the latter two off the accompanying cards and slowly stopped sending the cakes.
'It was from them and Suri, so it was the three of them, and then soon it was no Suri and no Katie and just Tom,' Shields said. 'Then it went from just Tom for a while, but not every holiday. And then the cake stopped.'
Cruise and Holmes - who were first romantically linked in 2005 - split in June of 2012 after five years of marriage.
The last time he was publicly seen with Suri was in 2013, and a source told Dailymail.com last month that the Top Gun leading man 'has no part' in his daughter's life.
Cruise and Holmes welcomed Suri on the same day in the same hospital as Shields gave birth to her second daughter Grier, with husband Chris Henchy, in April of 2006. The next year, the celeb couples hosted a joint birthday party for the children.
Shields said that Cruise and Holmes 'invited us to their wedding' in Italy in November of 2006. She said, 'I was like "Hell, yes, I going,"' adding that the experience 'was extraordinary.'
She said she hasn't a clue 'what happened' that led Cruise to stop sending the cakes, adding: 'I want to get back on that cake list. It's the best cake - Tom, I need to be back on the cake list.'
