Severance director Ben Stiller has given a welcomed update on the future of the Apple TV+ television show, revealing that a third season is officially on the cards.
The psychological workplace thriller, starring Adam Scott and Britt Lower, is set to return to the streamer on January 17 after three years off screens.
And getting fans excited ahead of its anticipated come back, Stiller has confirmed that there will be more Severance to come.
'You have a responsibility to the audience that you're going somewhere with it,' he said in a new interview.
'That's always been a part of it for us, really understanding where it's heading to, and Apple's been really supportive of that and been sensitive to what the story is and not saying, "Okay, this is something that has to keep going as long as it's successful."'
Stiller went on to add that he is gearing up to start work on a third season of Severance.
Psychological workplace thriller Severance will be returning for a season 3
Severance director Ben Stiller revealed he is 'starting up season three work'
Speaking to Collider in November, he added: 'It should go as long as the story goes, and that's something we have an idea of, and we're working towards as we're starting up our season three work.'
Severance premiered in February 2022 and followed Scott's character Mark as he found himself at the center of an unraveling secret that forced him to confront the true nature of his work.
'Mark and his friends learn the dire consequences of trifling with the severance barrier, leading them further down a path of woe,' reads the official logline for season two.
Teasing what's in store in the upcoming new chapter, Scott said: 'We're kicking the season off with Innie Mark having this piece of information and how that will affect him down at MDR, whether he'll be able to take that information and get it to his Outie, and how he would even try to do that.
'Who knows, but that's where we're starting. That's where the season is teeing off.'
Speaking to RadioTimes.com, he added: 'You could say that they're kind of like children in the first season.
'We've said in the second season, it's like they're turning into adolescents, or they're starting to just test the bounds of their world and develop emotional connections with each other.
'Those two aspects, Mark's Outie and Mark's Innie, are really at odds with each other in season two.'
