National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs)

Subnational and Local Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans

Subnational and Local Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (BSAPs) are increasingly being developed at state/provincial/territorial, local and cities levels. Greater attention is also being given to the development of Regional (supranational) Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans.

In decision 15/12 (Engagement with subnational governments, cities and other local authorities to enhance implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework), the Conference of the Parties adopted an updated Plan of Action on Subnational Governments, Cities and Other Local Authorities for Biodiversity (2023-2030).
