On a seasonally adjusted quarterly basis, Saudi Arabia's GDP grew by 0.8% in the September 2024 quarter, slowing from a 1.4% rise in each of the previous two quarters, preliminary estimates showed. Saudi Arabia has an oil-based economy. Shipments of oil account for 87 percent of total exports and for 46 percent of GDP. In recent years, in order to diversify the economy, the government has been investing in telecommunications, petrochemicals, natural gas exploitation and power generation sectors.
