Smokey the Bear cries himself to sleep each night because of this guy.

The Autobots would say that most Decepticons have a screw or two loose mentally, but Cindersaur is missing at least a bucketful. A volatile combination of pyromania and stupidity, it is suspected that, in his function as a Firestorm Trooper, he inhaled a good bit more smoke than his systems could handle and permanently damaged much of his cerebro-circuitry. With one of the lowest intelligence ratings ever recorded for a sentient robot, Cindersaur needs to burn a path of destruction everywhere he goes just to have a chance of finding his way home.

When not burning various things (especially Autobots) to ashes he relaxes by drinking volcanic lava and taking flame baths to ease his aching joints.

He's not being facetious, he's just too stupid to realize that fire is hot.

Cindersaur and the Firecons were sent to Earth, on behalf of their superiors on Cybertron, to make contact with the future Decepticon known as Galvatron. They found a squad of Autobot Sparkler Mini-Bots keeping tabs on Galvatron in the Florida Keys, and decided to burn away the competition. Cindersaur set Fizzle on fire, sending him into the ocean waters and blissful unconsciousness. He was overcome in battle by Guzzle, though, leaving him out of it when Galvatron ended up rejecting the Firecons' offer anyway. Enemy Action! Cindersaur got his rematch with the Sparklers on Cybertron, when the Firecons reopened the Jekka Amphitheatre as a gladiatorial arena, pitting gladiators against each other and the occasional captive Autobot. Ultra Magnus and the Sparklers came looking for the missing Chameleon, and were captured by the Firecons and their liaison, Zabra, as a result. Once Ultra Magnus was put into the ring and began beating the champion, Hooligan, Cindersaur and his buddies decided to pull out, leaving Zabra to the Autobots' inevitable retribution. Deadly Games!

Cindersaur is the dumb one in the middle.

Cindersaur and the other Firecons were in charge of a Decepticon penal facility on Cybertron. At the behest of Scorponok, they released three Autobots (Backstreet, Fizzle, and Sizzle), and sent them to Earth via a space bridge, where the three became test subjects for Lord Zarak's new creation, the jammer. Ca$h and Car-nage!

Decepticon High Command decreed that the Transformers Annual 1989 was anti-Decepticon propaganda and sent the Firecons to Earth to incinerate every copy not protected by the Autobots. Transformers Annual 1989

After a trio of Decepticons were mysteriously killed, Cindersaur and his buddies went looking for revenge against the Autobots. They found the Classic Pretenders on patrol and jumped them, Demons! but things came to an abrupt end when the giant, horrific demons who were really responsible raised their ugly heads. The Autobots and Decepticons joined forces in confronting the demons, but didn't fare too well. Cindersaur unleashed his flame breath on the creature, only to have its energies absorbed and returned to him in a fiery blast, leaving only his head atop a pile of, well... cinders. Dawn of Darkness

Later, the Firecons were among the troops who accompanied Bludgeon to the planet Klo on a mission of conquest after Cybertron was ravaged by Unicron. Cindersaur inadvertently destroyed his comrade Sparkstalker during the combat, inflicting the only casualty the Decepticons suffered during that military campaign. The Last Autobot?

When Megatron and the Decepticons captured several nuclear missiles to blackmail the Earth, Cindersaur and the Firecons guarded the missiles. They repelled the first Autobot mission by the Targetmasters, but were driven off when the Autobots returned with new Pretender soldiers. Transformers in Action: Megatron's Ultimatum

Even the Scavengers are too highbrow for him.

When Bludgeon's forces arrived at Cybertron, they sent out an army of Blitz Engines to soften up the opposition while Soundwave dispatched Monstructor to engage the Autobots' heavy hitter Omega Supreme. Although Bludgeon chose to remain on the Warworld, a group of his warriors descended to the planet's surface and engaged the Autobots directly alongside Cindersaur and Soundwave's Neo-Decepticons. The tide of battle soon turned against them, however, when the Dinobots and Demons destroyed the Blitz Engines, Omega Supreme tore Monstructor apart, Rodimus Prime threw Bludgeon through the Warworld's windscreen and Blaster took down Soundwave in single combat, Ultra Magnus was able to rally the Autobot forces with a rousing speech and they easily defeated the remaining Decepticons. Destiny, Part Five

Following the battle, any surviving Decepticons were rounded up and taken into custody. They were then most likely converted into shadow-leeches by the Dark Matrix creature, along with (almost) the entire population of Cybertron, while Rodimus Prime and his Autobots were off-planet fighting Jhiaxus at the Hub Network.

Cindersaur's so dumb he thinks he's Aquaman.

Highbrow was captured in battle and, immobilized, brought before Scorponok. Cindersaur reactivated Highbrow with an energy regenerator, and Highbrow was taken away. Later, when the Autobots came to retrieve Highbrow, Cindersaur's flame breath was neutralized by Hosehead's water cannon. Autobot Hostage

2005 IDW continuity

First appearance: Transformers: Bumblebee #1 (image only); Transformers: Robots in Disguise #12 (full appearance)

During the war, the Firecons torched an outpost on Varas Extrinsecus, attracting the Dinobots and the Wreckers who followed them to Varas Centralus. The Killing Jar During the great battle that followed, the Firecons burned the planet's atmosphere while other Decepticons reverse-engineered their abilities to create nasty infernus bullets. Quest for Fire Forever Is a Long Time Coming

Cindersaur was among the Decepticons left behind on Earth when their conquest of the planet failed. He was captured by a squad of Autobots led by Bumblebee, who then handed him over to Skywatch. The Hanging Sword

"Since when have I needed a puny torch to burn cities to the ground?!"

Cindersaur was apparently freed from Skywatch by the other Decepticons when they returned to Earth, and eventually travelled to Cybertron during the Chaos War. After the war ended, he and the other Decepticons remained on Cybertron with the Autobots and the arriving NAILs to repopulate the world. When Megatron returned after months' absence, however, Cindersaur and the Decepticons rioted in the streets, celebrating a return to the "good ol' days". Things got heated when Wheeljack appeared in their midst, causing the infuriated Cindersaur, Staxx, and Cutthroat to gang up on him. City on Fire They were stopped by Prowl, who subdued the Decepticons, cuffed them and left them to their own devices. The Verge

Cindersaur and Cutthroat rejoined the Decepticons after Starscream banished them all from Iacon and witnessed a brawl for control between the Triple Changers and Soundwave's cassettes. They listened as Needlenose broke up the fight and rejected Soundwave's leadership. Shockpoint As the neutrals and Autobots set up shop in Metroplex, the Firecons came to live with the other Decepticons in the slums outside, where they participated in a lynch mob targeting Optimus Prime. City of Steel Fearing revenge from the Autobots, the Firecons hid away only to be targeted by Sandstorm and the Dinobots for their suspected involvement in recent murders using infernus bullets. Cindersaur was impaled by Slug during the chaotic battle, but survived thanks to Optimus Prime who wanted the Firecons captured alive. Quest for Fire After they were taken into custody, Prime realized the trio was innocent on the grounds that they didn't need infernus bullets to kill people with fire. The Killing Jar

Cindersaur was one of the local Decepticons in Iacon drawn in by Needlenose and Brawl with news about Galvatron and Soundwave's plans for the Decepticon cause. The Transgressors As Galvatron addressed Cindersaur and the united listeners, the Decepticon army was officially reborn on Cybertron. Aphelion Cindersaur and the others marched on the Space Bridge and used it to attack the Autobots trapped behind Blackrock's onyx field aboard the Ark-7. Lagrange The Decepticons beat Sideswipe and Arcee, taking command of the Ark-7 before it crashed down in Shanghai. Perihelion Many of the Decepticon invaders, including Cindersaur, were disabled in battle by Earth Defense Command and their mindbomb weapon. Once Upon a Time on Earth

FLAME ON!

Cindersaur and the Firecons were among the first generation Decepticons sent back to Earth by Galvatron once he heard of the new faction of Decepticons that had formed there. Cindersaur joined up with Clench and the Decepticon Syndicate along with several others first gen warriors like Breakdown, Double Punch, and Slicer. In Switzerland, Clench and his Predacon general Sky-Byte were testing a new mutagen energon known as forestonite. After hearing of the potentially disastrous side-effects, Clench convinced the simple-minded Cindersaur to eat a canister of the stuff. Despite it not being meant to be taken orally (nom nom nom), Cindersaur survived the *urp*digestion and mutated into a massive Tyrannosaur crackling with new-found energy. He tested his newly upgraded fire-breath against the Autobots until Rapido guided some shark-missiles into the hapless Firecon. Generation 2: Redux

Clench later presented the three Firecons to Jhiaxus as a "bonus incentive". A Flash Forward, Part 2 When some captive Autobots freed themselves, the trio attacked them, only to be blasted by a tornado from Windbreaker. A Flash Forward, Part 6

First appearance: Transformers #35

Cindersaur was a member of the Decepticons after the fall of the Senate. He was part of a large army deployed to the Sea of Rust under Sixshot's authority to capture the Enigma of Combination. Lord of Misrule: Sea of Rust II

Cindersaur and Flamefeather were part of a posse of Decepticons assembled by Sixshot when he learned Ultra Magnus was escaping through Swindle's. Darkness, Once Gazed Upon: Part Two They breached the wall of the club, and Cindersaur went directly for Magnus, though unsuccessfully. Darkness, Once Gazed Upon: Part Three

Sixshot brought Cindersaur and Flamefeather with him when the Decepticons received word Exarchon had returned in the Sonic Canyons. War's End Part Two They entered an uneasy alliance with Pyra Magna's Autobots to destroy the Threefold Spark. The Firecons engaged with Exarchon's clone drones long enough for Mindwipe and Cyclonus to trap Exarchon in a spark cage, rendering him helpless. War's End Part Four

The Transformers

(thumbnail)
"Cindersaur-y"! "Cindersaur-y"! Night and day, it's "Cindersaur-y"!
Sold in the fifth year of the original Transformers toyline, Cindersaur transforms from a robot to a bipedal horn-nosed lizard monster thing. In this mode, his rear limbs can be swung up, allowing him to be rolled forward on the rubber gear-wheel on his belly. This activates the Firecon team's gimmick, shooting "cold" sparks from their beast mode mouths.
Like all of the other Firecon (and Sparkabot, save Guzzle) toys, Cindersaur has indents for a rubsign, despite 1987 being the last year any Transformers toys actually had rubsigns. These are the only toys from 1988 to have the indent, so what's up with that?
This mold was also used to make the Masterforce Sparkdash Guzzle.

Now where is his Cyber K— CINDERSAUR THAT IS NOT APPROPRIATE
  • Accessories: Tail/missile launcher, missile, Cyber Key
Timelines Cindersaur is a redeco of Beast Wars 10th Anniversary Deluxe Class Megatron, transforming into a technorganic Tyrannosaurus rex. The toy is intended to complete the Firecon set from Generation 2 which omitted Cindersaur from the trio. Like the other two Generation 2 Firecons, Cindersaur has purple and green robot parts and a third translucent color. However, due to plastic tolerances, not all of Cindersaur's blue could be made translucent. His Cyber Key is decoed with a Generation 2 Decepticon symbol, and when it is inserted into his tail, it opens up to reveal a spring-loaded missile launcher. Cindersaur was paired with Rapido and limited to 1500 pieces.
This mold was also redecoed as Cybertron Megatron.

Bot Shots

  • Cindersaur / Optimus Prime / Autobot Jazz (Multi-pack, 2013)
  • Series: 2
  • Number: BP007
  • Fist strength: 384
  • Blaster strength: 853
  • Sword strength: 383
Part of the second wave of Bot Shots Series 2 three-packs, Jump Shot Cindersaur is modeled on Prime Skystalker. He transforms into a beaky-looking reptile thing on wheels, with a predominantly purple and yellow color scheme. An impact to the front of his beast mode causes him to spring up and autotransform into a robot armed with a pistol. He has a "spinner" in his chest that shows his three attack types and power levels.
He comes in a three pack with Jump Shot Optimus Prime and Super Bot Jazz. This mold was redecoed twice into Bot Shots Skystalker, and was going to be redecoed into Buzzclaw and Rom the Space Knight, but those releases were canceled.
The second wave of Series 2 three-packs didn't reach mass retail in the United States, only showing up in discount stores like Ross.

Power of the Primes

(thumbnail)
...at least you know what I transform into this time...
and I don't have an inappropriately placed Cyber Key...
  • Cindersaur (Legends Class, 2018)
Part of the third wave of Power of the Primes Legends Class toys, Cindersaur is a retool of Dinobot Slash, and can transform into a rough, robotic approximation of a Velociraptor. The toy's beast mode jaw can open and close, along with a compartment on the beast mode back to fit a Prime Master inside when it is opened. In both modes, Cindersaur is fairly small for a Legends Class figure.
Some versions of the toy's pack-in card have the prefix "Dinobot" attached to Cindersaur's name, presumably a leftover from Slash. Additionally, the card for "Alpha Trion Cindersaur" refers to the character with the pronoun "her", but the card for "Micronus Cindersaur" uses the pronoun "his". Meanwhile, the backside packaging bio uses the masculine form of "warrior" in French/Spanish/Portuguese to describe Cindersaur.
Also paralleling Slash being a (non-combining) Dinobot, Cindersaur was referred as a Terrorcon by Hasbro Toy Shop.
