David Heinemeier Hansson has announced the release of Omarchy 3.0, a significant upgrade to the project's Arch-based Linux distribution featuring the Hyprland tiling window manager and designed primarily for software developers. Unlike the previous releases, this one provides a much larger ISO image, suitable for offline installations. "Omarchy 3.0 is a major upgrade for new installations and a wonderful level-up for existing users. The new ISO image doesn't require internet at all and you can install it in less than two minutes. You can now also install Omarchy on most pre-M MacBooks with support for keyboards, WiFi, and the T1 and T2 security chips. This is a decade-long hardware portfolio that we're trying to cover as well as we can out of the box. Existing installations can upgrade as per-normal using Update, Omarchy. New installations should download the fresh, all-inclusive ISO image before beginning, this is a 7 GB ISO image that includes the entire system for offline installation. Note: Ghostty compatibility requires Ghostty 1.2.0, which is still not released on the Arch repository. New super-fast installation ISO image: add everything needed for new all-inclusive ISO image that doesn't need internet...." Continue to the release announcement for further details. The project released version 3.0.0 before a quick bug-fix update to 3.0.1; here is the download link: omarchy-3.0.1.iso (7,201MB, pkglist). |

It ships with what a modern software developer would need to be productive immediately, including Neovim, Spotify, Chromium, Typora, Alacritty, LibreOffice and Zoom. The distribution boots into a text-mode system installer that downloads the latest packages from the Arch Linux repositories during installation to build a complete Hyprland desktop.

Distribution Release: Omarchy 3.3.0 |
 |
David Heinemeier Hansson has announced the release of Omarchy 3.3.0, an updated build of the project's Arch-based Linux distribution with Hyprland as the preferred window manager. It is intended for more advanced Linux users and developers. Besides a long list of additions and fixes, the new release also brings important updates to dictation, hibernation and themes: "Voxtype offers a variety of different local AI dictation models. You can install it using Install, AI, Dictation where the default is a 150 MB base English model. After it's installed, you can start dictating using Super + Ctrl + X. While dictating, you'll see a red microphone in the center of the top menu, which you can click to pick another model (or just run 'voxtype setup model' from terminal). Or right-click to edit the entire Voxtype configuration. With Linux running on a million different systems, there is varying levels of support for system sleep, so by default Omarchy will only show the options that work everywhere: lock, screensaver, restart, shutdown. But plenty of systems do support hibernation and suspend, so now you can enable both via Setup, System Sleep. Hibernation requires a swap subvolume of the same size as your physical RAM allotment. That'll automatically be set up when you run the 'Enable Hibernate' option. So too will configuration for suspend-to-hibernate after 30 minutes on systems that support it."
