The Dynamic Aperture (DA) is an important concept for the study of non-linear beam dynamics in a circular accelerator. It refers to the region in phase space where a particle’s motion remains bounded over a given number of turns. [...]

Xsuite: an integrated beam physics simulation framework / Iadarola, Giovanni (CERN) ; Abramov, Andrey (CERN) ; Belanger, Philippe (TRIUMF) ; Buffat, Xavier (CERN) ; De Maria, Riccardo (CERN) ; Demetriadou, Despina (CERN) ; Deniau, Laurent (CERN) ; Di Croce, Davide (EPFL, Lausanne, FSL) ; Hermes, Pascal (CERN) ; Kicsiny, Peter (CERN) et al.
Xsuite is a newly developed modular simulation package combining in a single flexible and modern framework the capabilities of different tools developed at CERN in the past decades, notably Sixtrack, Sixtracklib, COMBI and PyHEADTAIL. The suite consists of a set of Python modules (Xobjects, Xpart, Xtrack, Xcoll, Xfields, Xdeps) that can be flexibly combined together and with other accelerator-specific and general-purpose python tools to study complex simulation scenarios. A Novel Method for Detecting Unidentified Falling Object Loss Patterns in the LHC / Coyle, Loic (CERN) ; Blanc, Frederic (Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne) ; Di Croce, Davide (Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne) ; Lechner, Anton (CERN) ; Mirarchi, Daniele (CERN) ; Pieloni, Tatiana (Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne) ; Solfaroli Camillocci, Matteo (CERN) ; Wenninger, Jorg (CERN)
Understanding and mitigating particle losses in the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is essential for both machine safety and efficient operation. Abnormal loss distributions are telltale signs of abnormal beam behaviour or incorrect machine configuration. [...]

Analysis Tools for Numerical Simulations of Dynamic Aperture with Xsuite / Pugnat, Thomas (CERN) ; Di Croce, Davide (Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne) ; Giovannozzi, Massimo (CERN) ; Van der Veken, Frederik (CERN)
Recently, several efforts have been made at CERN to develop a new tracking tool, Xsuite, which is intended to be the successor to SixTrack. In this framework, analysis tools have also been prepared with the goal of providing advanced post-processing techniques for the interpretation of dynamic aperture simulations. [...]

Modeling Particle Stability Plots for Accelerator Optimization Using Adaptive Sampling / Schenk, Michael (Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne ; CERN) ; Coyle, Loic (CERN ; Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne) ; Giovannozzi, Massimo (CERN) ; Krymova, Ekaterina (Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne ; Zurich, ETH) ; Mereghetti, Alessio (CERN ; CNAO, Milan) ; Obozinski, Guillaume (Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne ; Zurich, ETH) ; Pieloni, Tatiana (CERN ; Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne)
One key aspect of accelerator optimization is to maximize the dynamic aperture (DA) of a ring. Given the number of adjustable parameters and the compute-intensity of DA simulations, this task can benefit significantly from efficient search algorithms of the available parameter space. [...]

Detection and Classification of Collective Beam Behaviour in the LHC / Coyle, Loic (Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne ; CERN) ; Blanc, Frederic (Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne) ; Buffat, Xavier (CERN) ; Krymova, Ekaterina (Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne ; Zurich, ETH) ; Obozinski, Guillaume (Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne ; Zurich, ETH) ; Pieloni, Tatiana (Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne ; CERN) ; Schenk, Michael (Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne ; CERN) ; Solfaroli Camillocci, Matteo (CERN) ; Wenninger, Jorg (CERN)
Collective instabilities can lead to a severe deterioration of beam quality, in terms of reduced beam intensity and increased beam emittance, and consequently a reduction of the collider’s luminosity. It is therefore crucial for the operation of the CERN’s Large Hadron Collider to understand the conditions in which they appear in order to find appropriate mitigation measures. [...]

The FCC-ee (Future Circular Collider) lepton collider is currently the most favored next generation research infrastructure project at CERN, aimed at studying properties of standard model particles with the highest precision ever. The chosen parameters of the machine yield unprecedented conditions which give rise to previously unseen dynamical effects during collisions. [...]

A Linearized Vlasov Method for the Study of Transverse e-Cloud Instabilities / Johannesson, Sofia (CERN ; Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne) ; Iadarola, Giovanni (CERN) ; Seidel, Mike (PSI, Villigen ; Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne)
Using a Vlasov approach, electron cloud driven instabilities can be modeled to study beam stability on time scales that conventional Particle In Cell simulation methods cannot access. The Vlasov approach uses a linear description of electron cloud forces that accounts for both the betatron tune modulation along the bunch and the dipolar kicks from the electron cloud. [...]

The Dynamic Aperture (DA) is an important concept for the study of non-linear beam dynamics in a circular accelerator. The DA is defined as the extent of the phase-space region in which the particle's motion remains bounded over a finite number of turns. [...]
