TDI - past observations and improvements for 2016 / Lechner, A (CERN) ; Barnes, M J (CERN) ; Bartmann, W (CERN) ; Biancacci, N (CERN) ; Bracco, C (CERN) ; Bregliozzi, G (CERN) ; Butcher, M (CERN) ; Muller, J Esteban (CERN) ; Folch, R (CERN) ; Gentini, L (CERN) et al.
In Run 1, the LHC injection absorbers (TDIs) were affected by several anomalies including structural damage of the beam screens and elastic deformations of the jaws due to heating during fills. Other issues became apparent in 2015, like excessive vacuum spikes, which gave rise to several beam dumps, as well as quality issues affecting the hBN absorber blocks. [...]

Operational Feedback and Analysis of Current and Future Designs of the Injection Protection Absorbers in the Large Hadron Collider at CERN / Carbajo Perez, David (CERN) ; Biancacci, Nicolo (CERN) ; Bracco, Chiara (CERN) ; Bregliozzi, Giuseppe (CERN) ; Calviani, Marco (CERN) ; Frankl, Matthias (CERN) ; Gentini, Luca (CERN) ; Gilardoni, Simone (CERN) ; Iadarola, Giovanni (CERN) ; Lamas Garcia, Inigo (CERN) et al.
Two injection protection absorbers, so-called TDIs (Target Dump Injection), are installed close to Interaction Points IP2 and IP8 of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) right downstream of the injection kicker magnets (MKI). Malfunction or timing errors in the latter lead to wrong steering of the beam, which must then be intercepted by the TDI to avoid downstream equipment (which includes superconducting magnets) damage. LHC Injection Protection Devices, Thermo-mechanical Studies through the Design Phase / Lamas Garcia, Inigo (CERN) ; Biancacci, Nicolo (CERN) ; Bregliozzi, Giuseppe (CERN) ; Calviani, Marco (CERN) ; Frankl, Matthias (CERN) ; Gentini, Luca (CERN) ; Gilardoni, Simone (CERN) ; Lechner, Anton (CERN) ; Perillo-Marcone, Antonio (CERN) ; Salvant, Benoit (CERN) et al.
The TDI is a beam intercepting device installed on the two injection lines of the LHC. Its function is to protect the superconducting machine elements during injection in the case of a malfunction of the injection kickers. [...]

Beam induced dynamic pressure during Run 2 (2015-2018) / Yin Vallgren, C (CERN) ; Ribes Metidieri, P (CERN) ; Bregliozzi, G (CERN)
The LHC successfully returned to operation in April 2015after almost 2 years of Long Shutdown 1 (LS1) for variousupgrade and consolidation programs. During Run 2 (2015 -2018) the LHC operated for more than 3600 fills and it hasreached a total integrated luminosity of more than 150 fb1.This paper summarizes the dynamic vacuum observationsin dierent locations along the LHC during the dedicatedfills as well as during the physics runs with dierent beamparameters. MKI performance during 2016 and plans for EYETS / Barnes, M J (CERN) ; Bartmann, W (CERN) ; Bracco, C (CERN) ; Ducimetiere, L (CERN) ; Goddard, B (CERN) ; Bregliozzi, G (CERN) ; Cid, L Vega (CERN) ; Vallgren, C Yin (CERN) ; Vlachodimitropoulos, V (CERN) ; Weterings, W (CERN)
Substantial upgrades were carried out to the MKI beam screen during LSl: MKI heating has not lirrrited LHC operation since LSl, and is not expected to do so during Run 2. Similarly, during LSl, the vacuum systems on the interconnects between MKl magnets were upgraded: as a result there haven't been any issues with SIS vacuum thresholds on the interconnects between adjacent MKls. Beam induced RF heating / Salvant, B (CERN) ; Aberle, O (CERN) ; Arduini, G (CERN) ; Assmann, R (CERN) ; Baglin, V (CERN) ; Barnes, M J (CERN) ; Bartmann, W (CERN) ; Baudrenghien, P (CERN) ; Berrig, O (CERN) ; Bracco, C (CERN) et al.
After the 2011 run, actions were put in place during the 2011/2012 winter stop to limit beam induced radio frequency (RF) heating of LHC components. However, some components could not be changed during this short stop and continued to represent a limitation throughout 2012. [...]
