Timepix-based detectors in mixed-field charged-particle radiation dosimetry applications / Pinsky, Lawrence S. (Houston U.) ; Pospisil, Stanislav (Lisbon U.)
Timepix-based detectors have been deployed in a variety of mixed-field situations for dosimetry applications, such as Radon monitoring, evaluating propagating hadron therapy beams, and assessing radiation doses received by airline passengers and crewmembers. However, one of the most significant and complex achievements of Timepix-based detectors is their success in evaluating the incident charged particle fields in space radiation environments, both inside spacecraft and exposed to space with minimal shielding. Real-time measurements of radon activity with the Timepix-based RADONLITE and RADONPIX detectors / Caresana, M (Milan Polytechnic) ; Garlati, L (Milan Polytechnic) ; Murtas, F (CERN ; Frascati) ; Romano, S (CERN ; Milan Polytechnic) ; Severino, C T (CERN ; Bern U., LHEP) ; Silari, M (CERN)
Radon gas is the most important source of ionizing radiation among those of natural origin. Two new systems for radon measurement based on the Timepix silicon detector were developed. [...]

RaDoM: a lung dosimeter for radon progeny / Romano, S ; Caresana, M ; Garlati, L ; Murtas, F ; Silari, M (CERN)
This paper discusses a novel Timepix-based on-line radon dose monitor called RaDoM. The detector provides a direct estimate of the effective dose to the lung via a system of filters having the same absorption characteristics as this organ and a measurement of the PAEC (the potential alpha energy concentration). Dosimetry Mapping of Mixed-Field Radiation Environment Through Combined Distributed Optical Fiber Sensing and FLUKA Simulation / Di Francesca, Diego (CERN) ; Infantino, Angelo (CERN) ; Li Vecchi, Gaetano (CERN ; Jean Monnet U. ; Lab. Hubert Curien, St. Etienne) ; Girard, Sylvain (Jean Monnet U. ; Lab. Hubert Curien, St. Etienne) ; Alessi, Antonino (Jean Monnet U. ; Lab. Distributed optical fiber (OF) radiation sensing is a technique recently adopted at CERN for the monitoring of radiation dose levels in the proton synchrotron (PS) booster and in the PS. In this paper, we present the progress made on our previous work by benchmarking the rich information contained in the spatially distributed OF dose measurement with the radiation levels simulated with the FLUKA Monte Carlo code. SEE Flux and Spectral Hardness Calibration of Neutron Spallation and Mixed-Field Facilities / Cecchetto, Matteo (CERN) ; Fernández-Martínez, Pablo (CERN) ; García Alía, Rubén (CERN) ; Ferraro, Rudy (CERN) ; Danzeca, Salvatore (CERN) ; Wrobel, Frédéric (IES, Montpellier) ; Cazzaniga, Carlo (Daresbury) ; Frost, Christopher D (Daresbury)
The approach of calibrating neutron environments through well-known Single Event Upset (SEU)-based SRAM memories is applied to a neutron spallation and mixed-field facility. Implications on the Soft Error Rate (SER) induced by intermediate energy neutrons are evaluated comparing operational environments, such as ground level and accelerator shielded areas, with those reproducible by facilities. Electronics Irradiation With Neutrons at the NEAR Station of the n_TOF Spallation Source at CERN / Cecchetto, Matteo (CERN) ; Sacristan Barbero, Mario (CERN) ; Lerner, Giuseppe (CERN) ; García Alía, Rubén (CERN) ; Aguiar, Ygor (CERN) ; Senajova, Dominika (CERN) ; Garcia Infantes, Francisco (CERN) ; Pavon Rodriguez, Jose Antonio (CERN) ; Sabate Gilarte, Marta (CERN) ; Vlachoudis, Vasilis (CERN) et al.
We study the neutron field at the NEAR station of the neutron time-of-flight (n_TOF) facility at CERN, through Monte Carlo simulations, well-characterized static random access memories (SRAMs), and radio-photoluminescence (RPL) dosimeters, with the aim of providing neutrons for electronics irradiation. Particle fluxes and typical quantities relevant for electronics testing were simulated for several test positions at NEAR and compared to those at the CERN high-energy accelerator mixed-field facility (CHARM), highlighting similitudes and differences.
