/ Acosta, D (Florida U.) ; Fisher, M (Florida U.) ; Furic, I (Florida U.) ; Gartner, J (Florida U.) ; Di Giovanni, G P (Florida U.) ; Hammar, A (Florida U.) ; Kotov, K (Florida U.) ; Madorsky, A (Florida U.) ; Matveev, M (Rice U.) ; Padley, P (Rice U.) et al.
The conceptual design for a Level-1 muon track-finder trigger for the CMS endcap muon system is proposed that can accommodate the increased particle occupancy and system constraints of the proposed SLHC accelerator upgrade and the CMS detector upgrades. A brief review of the architecture of the current track-finder for LHC trigger operation is given, with potential bottlenecks indicated for SLHC operation. [...]

A 3-D Track-Finding Processor for the CMS Level-1 Muon Trigger
/ Acosta, D. (Florida U.) ; Kan, M. (Florida U.) ; Madorsky, A. (Florida U.) ; Scurlock, B. (Florida U.) ; Stoeck, H. (Florida U.) ; Wang, S.M. (Florida U.) ; Golovtsov, V. (St. Petersburg, INP) ; Uvarov, L. (St. Petersburg, INP)
We report on the design and test results of a prototype processor for the CMS Level-1 trigger that performs 3-D track reconstruction and measurement from data recorded by the cathode strip chambers of the endcap muon system. The tracking algorithms are written in C++ using a class library we developed that facilitates automatic conversion to Verilog. [...]

To maintain the excellent performance shown during the LHCs Run-1 the Level-1 Trigger of the Compact Muon Solenoid experiment underwent a significant upgrade. One part of this upgrade is the re-organization of the muon trigger path from a subsystem-centric view in which hits in the drift tubes (DT), the cathode strip chambers (CSC), and the resistive plate chambers (RPC) were treated separately in dedicated track-finding systems to one in which complementary detector systems for a given region (barrel, overlap, and endcap) are merged at the track-finding level. / Wang, S M ; Acosta, D ; Madorsky, A ; Scurlock, B ; Atamanchuk, A G ; Golovtsov, V L ; Razmyslovich, B V
We report on the development and performance of a novel track-finding processor for the Level-1 trigger of the CMS endcap muon system. The processor links track segments identified in the cathode-strip chambers of the endcap muon system into complete three-dimensional tracks. [...]

The Track-Finding Processor for the Level-1 Trigger of the CMS Endcap Muon System
/ Acosta, Darin ; Atamanchuk, A (St. Petersburg Nuclear Physics Institute, Russia) ; Golovtsov, Victor (St. Petersburg Nuclear Physics Institute, Russia) ; Madorsky, Alexander (University of Florida, Gainesville, USA) ; Razmyslovich, Boris (St. Petersburg Nuclear Physics Institute, Russia) ; Scurlock, Bobby (University of Florida, Gainesville, USA) ; Wang, Shaowen (University of Florida, Gainesville, USA)
We report on the development and test of a prototype track-finding processor for the level-1 trigger of the CMS endcap muon system. The processor links track segments identified in the cathode strip chambers of the endcap muon system into complete three-dimensional tracks, and measures the transverse momentum of the best track candidates from the sagitta induced by the magnetic bending. / Acosta, D ; Adams, N ; Atamanchouk, A ; Cousins, R D ; Ferguson, M I ; Golovtsov, V L ; Hauser, J ; Madorsky, A ; Matveev, M ; Mumford, J et al.
We report on the development and test of a fast three-dimensional Track-Finder for the Level-1 trigger of the CMS endcap muon system. System tests included four types of custom circuit boards clocked at 40 MHz, optical links, and a high-speed custom auxiliary backplane in a VME crate. [...]
