From Leading Hadron Suppression to Jet Quenching at RHIC and at the LHC / Wiedemann, Urs Achim (CERN)
In nucleus-nucleus collisions at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC), one generically observes a strong medium-induced suppression of high-pT hadron production. This suppression is accounted for in models which assume a significant medium-induced radiative energy loss of high-pT parent partons produced in the collision. [...]

Performance of the ALICE VZERO system / ALICE Collaboration
ALICE is an LHC experiment devoted to the study of strongly interacting matter in proton--proton, proton--nucleus and nucleus--nucleus collisions at ultra-relativistic energies. The ALICE VZERO system, made of two scintillator arrays at asymmetric positions, one on each side of the interaction point, plays a central role in ALICE. [...]

Particle-yield modification in jet-like azimuthal dihadron correlations in Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 2.76 TeV / ALICE Collaboration
The yield of charged particles associated with high-pT trigger particles (8 < pT < 15 GeV/c) is measured with the ALICE detector in Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 2.76 TeV relative to proton-proton collisions at the same energy. The conditional per-trigger yields are extracted from the narrow jet-like correlation peaks in azimuthal di-hadron correlations. [...]

Low-pT Collective Flow Induces High-pT Jet Quenching / Armesto, Nestor (CERN) ; Salgado, Carlos A. (CERN) ; Wiedemann, Urs Achim (CERN)
Data on low-pT hadronic spectra are widely regarded as evidence of a hydrodynamic expansion in nucleus-nucleus collisions. In this interpretation, different hadron species emerge from a common medium that has built up a strong collective velocity field. [...]

Alignment of the ALICE Inner Tracking System with cosmic-ray tracks / ALICE Collaboration
ALICE (A Large Ion Collider Experiment) is the LHC (Large Hadron Collider) experiment devoted to investigating the strongly interacting matter created in nucleus-nucleus collisions at the LHC energies. The ALICE ITS, Inner Tracking System, consists of six cylindrical layers of silicon detectors with three different technologies; in the outward direction: two layers of pixel detectors, two layers each of drift, and strip detectors. Measurement of the inclusive differential jet cross section in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 2.76 TeV / ALICE Collaboration
The ALICE collaboration at the CERN Large Hadron Collider reports the first measurement of the inclusive differential jet cross section at mid-rapidity in pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 2.76 TeV, with integrated luminosity of 13.6 nb^-1. Jets are measured over the transverse momentum range 20 to 125 GeV/c and are corrected to the particle level. [...]

Charged-particle multiplicity density at mid-rapidity in central Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 2.76 TeV / ALICE Collaboration
The first measurement of the charged-particle multiplicity density at mid-rapidity in Pb-Pb collisions at a centre-of-mass energy per nucleon pair sqrt(sNN) = 2.76 TeV is presented. For an event sample corresponding to the most central 5% of the hadronic cross section the pseudo-rapidity density of primary charged particles at mid-rapidity is 1584 +- 4 (stat) +- 76 (sys.), which corresponds to 8.3 +- 0.4 (sys.) per participating nucleon pair. Multiplicity distributions inside parton cascades developing in a medium / Borghini, Nicolas (CERN)
The explanation of the suppression of high-pT hadron yields at RHIC in terms of jet-quenching implies that the multiplicity distributions of particles inside a jet and jet-like particle correlations differ strongly in nucleus-nucleus collisions at RHIC or at the LHC from those observed at e+e- or hadron colliders. We present a framework for describing the medium-induced modification, which has a direct interpretation in terms of a probabilistic medium-modified parton cascade, and which treats leading and subleading partons on an equal footing. A new SPS programme / NA49-future Collaboration
A new experiemntal program to study hadron production in hadron-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus collisions at the CERN SPS has been recently proposed by the NA49-future collaboration. The physics goals of the program are: (i) search for the critical point of strongly interacting matter and a study of the properties of the onset of deconfinemnt in nucleus-nucleus collisions, (ii) measurements of correlations, fluctuations and hadron spectra at high transverse momentum in proton-nucleus collisions needed as for better understanding of nucleus-nucleus results, (iii) measurements of hadron production in hadron-nucleus interactions needed for neutrino (T2K) and cosmic-ray (Pierre Auger Observatory and KASCADE) expriments.
