Normal vs. deprecated rank
[edit]@Infovarius:, I see you changed all outdated links from deprecated to normal rank, and the working ones to preferred. However, given that the outdated ones no longer work, is deprecated not the correct rank for them? And is it not useful to rank the one Sci-Hub itself usually mentions (which would be .tw at this point) as preferred?

- @Vinnld: According to instructions historical (but correct some time ago) data should have rank=normal, current and existing ones should be preferred. Deprecated rank should be used only for those values which were never correct (but nevertheless mentioned in some sources). --Infovarius (talk) 16:29, 22 November 2018 (UTC)
- Ah, that makes sense, thanks for explaining! --Vinnld (talk) 12:31, 23 November 2018 (UTC)
- @Infovarius: user:עלי has just set the deprecated rank for a link with reason for deprecated rank (P2241) set to link rot (Q1193907). And indeed, it is an instance of Wikibase reason for deprecated rank (Q27949697), although not a member of list of Wikidata reasons for deprecation (Q52105174). So what is the actual policy for dead links? --colt_browning (talk) 11:57, 11 January 2022 (UTC)
- @Colt browning: This deserves discussion at Wikidata:Project chat. --Infovarius (talk) 15:24, 13 January 2022 (UTC)

@Benplowman: please see this discussion. --colt_browning (talk) 19:16, 16 July 2020 (UTC)
- @colt_browning: aha, yeah, apologies. I saw this discussion after I had already made my changes. I tried originally to just promote the functioning links in the ranking instead of deprecating the busted ones but that didn't seem to work for my main goal, which was having the link surfaced in the Sci-Hub wikipedia article be one that is active. I'll try to see if there's another way to accomplish the same thing. Benplowman (talk) 20:28, 16 July 2020 (UTC)
- @Benplowman: OK. And one more issue related to the preferred URL: I set .st to be the preferred one because (1) Elbakyan herself provides it through the social media vk.com/sci_hub and (2) the .se and .tw Sci-Hub domains are currently blocked in certain regions, while .st is not yet. --colt_browning (talk) 20:58, 16 July 2020 (UTC)
Cannot update link
[edit]Currently, sci-hub.se works only through http, not https. But I cannot update the link (in this situation the update is probably more appropriate than a new statement) because of the spam filter that forbids the "sci-hub." substring. --colt_browning (talk) 12:38, 27 May 2019 (UTC)
The https version is up again. So no action needed right now. But in future this issue will have to be solved. --colt_browning (talk) 13:35, 29 May 2019 (UTC)
No the https version is also gone (50* error), but I couldnt change it no "not working" (prob b/c no account…) --2003:ED:E71A:0:DC79:372F:5DE0:EA18 13:46, 7 April 2020 (UTC) (nopre, was just stupid and changed wrong qualifier… sorry!
Recommended URL
[edit]@Kashmiri: thank you for taking care of the URLs. If you want to choose one URL to have the Recommended rank, I'd prefer .do because the other two that are still online are blocked in certain regions of the world, while this one is not. Also, it is currently promoted by Elbakyan on the social media. Another option is to leave three recommended URLs as is even though it violates the constraints. --colt_browning (talk) 14:31, 18 October 2020 (UTC)
- @Colt browning: Thanks for pinging. I saw
and.se
as better established than.st
, but also I wasn't aware of the block, so feel free to assign a higher priority to .do. Leaving both even might not be the best idea as the exclamation mark will surely draw someone's attention sooner or later. Kashmiri (talk) 23:14, 18 October 2020 (UTC).do
.se is gone
[edit]{{edit request}}
Can someone advise how to go around the spam filter and update the .se domain to normal rank, end date 25 January 2023? The domain is gone... Kashmiri (talk) 19:08, 26 January 2023 (UTC)

- Can we please revert this? This domain still works and is advertised at https://web.archive.org/web/20230130192549/https://sci-hub(dot)ru/mirrors --Bugmenot1992 (talk) 15:24, 3 February 2023 (UTC)
- Elbakyan confirms. So, indeed, makes sense to revert for now. --colt_browning (talk) 00:01, 4 February 2023 (UTC)
