Crack Width Calculation

This document summarizes the calculation of crack width for a beam section according to IS 456-2000. The beam has a width of 1000mm, depth of 300mm, and effective depth of 237.5mm. The reinforcement area is 5911mm2. Calculations show the maximum strain is 0.0010mm, less than the limiting value of 0.0025mm. The calculated crack width is 0.247mm, which is less than the limit of 0.25mm. Therefore, the crack width meets code requirements.

CHECK FOR CRACK WIDTH AS PER IS 456-2000

BEAM SECTION :-
WIDTH (b) = 1000 mm e1
DEPTH (D)= 300 mm
d-x fs/Es D-x
EFFECTIVE DEPTH (d) = 237.5 mm d D
CLEAR COVER = 50 mm x
Ast = 5911 mm
TOTAL COVER = 62.5 mm fc/Ec
GRADE OF CONCRETE (fck ) = M 25 Strain Diagram

ELASTIC MODULUS OF CONCRETE (Ec) = 5000X SQRT(fck) = 25000 N/mm

ELASTIC MODULUS OF CONCRETE (Es) = 200000 N/mm
MODULAR RATIO (m) = 8
MAXm MOMENT (Ms) = 15.90 T/m

FROM DIAGRAM, e1 =(fs/Es)x(D-x)/(d-x) .( 1 )

Now, FROM THE METHOD OF THE TRANSFORMED SECTION, b*x*x/2 = m*As*(d-x)
So,
x= ### (PUTTING THE VALUE OF b, m , As ,& d )

fs = Ms/(As*(d-x/3)) = ###

FROM THE EQUATION (1) , e1 = 0.0010 mm

e2 (DUE TO STRAIN HARDENING) = 1.5*b*(D-x)*(a-x)/{3*Es*As*(d-x)}

TAKING, D=a= 300 mm e2 = 0.000001 mm < e1

SO THERE WILL BE CRACK. (REF. APPENDIX F OF IS 456)

CRACK WIDTH = 3*acr*m/{1+2*(acr-cmin)/(D-x)} (REF. APPENDIX F OF IS 456) . ( 2 )

HERE, m = e1-e2 = 0.000997 mm (REF. APPENDIX F OF IS 456)

acr = Sqrt[(R/4)+ec]-dia/2 (REF. APPENDIX F OF IS 456)

###

FROM THE EQUATION (2) , BAR DIA = 25 mm

CRACK WIDTH = 0.247 mm < 0.25, Hence ok ec =

cmin+dia/2
75 mm

R =b-2*cmin-dia
R 850 mm
94.576 ###
89847.2

###

b-2*cmin-dia
