A firm’s ability to compete effectively depends on matching its internal operations with various exterior contexts. This research investigated the impact of strategic fit orientation on business agility among female entrepreneurs in Lagos state, Nigeria’s non-oil export sector. This study used a descriptive and quantitative approach to gather information from four hundred and two (402) selected female entrepreneurs actively engaged in non-oil exporting activities in the agribusiness, textile, and information and technology business processing industry. The respondents were purposefully determined, while the data were analyzed using measurement and structural modeling. This study reveals that strategic fit orientation significantly mediates firm strategies and business agility. This means that women entrepreneurs should continually develop structures and strategies to stay agile and strategically fit in the business environment. They are to adapt their objectives strategically to reduce potential risks and assess situations and possible consequences of threats to remain dynamic in the business environment. This study addressed the gap between strategic fit orientation and business agility in developing economies. Full article

This study was conducted in Malaysia to examine the effectiveness of the microfinance programme for urban single mother entrepreneurs in MSMEs during the COVID-19 pandemic and Movement Control Order (MCO). Implemented as a response to the pandemic, the MCO significantly disrupted businesses, particularly MSMEs. The study aimed to investigate the relationship between empowerment factors (economic, social, digital, and psychological) and governance aspects concerning the effectiveness of microfinance programmes. Using a positivist paradigm and employing quantitative methods through online questionnaire distribution, this research established a framework based on empowerment theory. The findings underscore the importance of economic empowerment, digital empowerment, and governance aspects for microfinance programme success, and provide empirical backing for suitable mitigation strategies for MSME entrepreneurs. The study emphasises the importance of supporting single mother entrepreneurs through various developmental activities, technical and vocational training, and comprehensive financial and non-financial aid initiatives. It stresses the critical role of women, particularly single mothers, in propelling societal and economic advancement, and advocating for their empowerment through targeted interventions. Overall, the findings enhance understanding of the challenges MSMEs face during crises, and offer insights for policymakers and microfinance agencies to strengthen support for single mother entrepreneurs in navigating future challenges and fostering economic resilience and development. Despite the fact that the issue of female poverty is widespread, continuous attempts are made to combat it and advance women’s empowerment. To achieve the goals of sustainable development, such as eradicating poverty, attaining gender equality, promoting good jobs and economic growth, and eliminating inequities, creative strategies must be developed. This study focused on the Nigerian Youth and Women Farmers Association in order to examine the effect of social empowerment on alleviating poverty in Nigeria’s agricultural sector. Out of the 353 issued questionnaires, 335 were returned and used in this study’s investigation. The structural equation model with partial least squares (SEM-PLS) was used to analyse the acquired data. The results showed an important correlation between social empowerment and reductions in poverty among women working in the agricultural sector. This highlights how crucial it is to work together, provide resources, and extend support in order to empower women socially and foster an atmosphere that supports their social and economic advancement. This research recommends that lawmakers, organisations, and governmental entities actively support the empowerment of women in the agricultural sector in order to encourage sustainable farming practices among female entrepreneurs. The main objective of this study is to present the feasibility of rerouting the EuroVelo 6 through the Fruška Gora National Park (Serbia) as a sustainable eco-tourism product. Our research was conducted with a survey and field interviews. The first part of this research involved consulting 717 cyclists from six EU countries, and the opinions of local entrepreneurs and employees of the national park were also investigated. An architect made a “blueprint” info board as a proposal for trails within the national park. The purpose of conducting this research was to show the importance of retracing an international route. Cyclists expressed their satisfaction with the proposed F1 track to the greatest extent. The results of the survey of employees of the NP suggested the sustainability of cycling tourists because they showed great responsibility in their behavior, and the results of the domestic entrepreneurs particularly pointed to some economic aspects of the development of cycling, as well as its impact on the empowerment of women in rural destinations. It was concluded that rerouting the “Danube Cycle Route” through the Fruška Gora National Park is feasible and sustainable. The results obtained in this study provide a justification for this retracing because it turns out that cyclists are desirable, responsible, and sustainable tourists who have a significant impact on the destinations and people they are directed to. This research will be applied to every attractive part along EuroVelo 6, thus expanding the network of cycle paths. Full article

Tribal women entrepreneurship has gained significant attention in recent years as a means to empower women from indigenous communities and foster sustainable development within their societies. However, with the recognition of their unique skills, knowledge, and cultural heritage, tribal women are increasingly embracing entrepreneurship as a pathway to economic self-sufficiency and empowerment. Our research analysed bibliometric data from 2002 to 2023 to see how the field of study on tribal women entrepreneurs has evolved. This study looked at a wide range of factors, including publication details, authorship details, country of origin, and author-related keywords. The R studio Bibliometrix programme was used to make the visuals. The annual output of publications increased by 9.82% after the COVID-19 pandemic, and there was a notable increase in the number of publications on tribal women entrepreneurship. Possible causes include supportive technological development, a thriving environment for new businesses, and government initiatives. India and the United States have produced the most comprehensive studies of entrepreneurship followed by the United Kingdom, but researchers from all over the world have worked together on similar projects. This study has shown that there has been a significant increase in entrepreneurial research activity, as well as demonstrating the breadth and interdisciplinary character of this research. However, more work needs to be carried out to bring together scholars from different fields to examine how different organisations have impacted the study of tribal women entrepreneurs. Full article

Empowering women is essential for poverty alleviation and open involvement of woman entrepreneurs in line for entrepreneurship development. Nonetheless, several woman-led enterprises and woman entrepreneurs have scarce opportunities to revitalize beyond the dearth of financial services to realize financial freedom. This article’s approach hinges on a bibliometric analysis to survey recent developments and trends in microfinancing woman-owned enterprises and how this field is expected to transform to recent financial technological progress over successive years. We review existing evidence from 402 published articles indexed in the Scopus database from January 2003 to March 2023 to explain the current research development and interrelated prospects for enhancing studies on microfinance for woman entrepreneurship. The results vividly indicate that access to a stream of microfinancing credit is fundamental to the prosperity of urban woman-led enterprises across all countries. Despite this, woman entrepreneurs still encounter several obstacles when starting new businesses or expanding existing ones. With a growing demand for substantial sums of external financing to transition to sustainable business practices, their contribution to sustainable development is most often unreachable. Thus, any financing strategies focused on allowing access to microfinance credit by woman entrepreneurs are necessary to enable this sector to receive the benefits of economic freedom. This study offers good insights for current and potential entrepreneurs to bridge the financing gaps in emerging economies as a strategy for strengthening the capability of woman entrepreneurs to pursue economic opportunities that can inspire sustainable business enterprises and contribute to sustainable development. Finally, the study provides a foundation for future research in the domain of entrepreneurial financing for MSMEs. Full article

Technological infrastructure plays a critical role in a country’s development and progress, enabling economic growth, innovation, and improving citizens’ quality of life. This study explores the potential of digital entrepreneurship and digital transformation in reducing unemployment in Oman. With the increasing reliance on digital technologies, governments need to invest in technological infrastructure that can meet the evolving needs of society. This study investigates the potential of digital entrepreneurship and digital transformation in reducing unemployment in Oman. This study highlights the importance of technological infrastructure in enabling economic growth and improving citizens’ quality of life. The findings indicate that digital entrepreneurship offers equal opportunities for both genders, potentially empowering women in entrepreneurship and addressing unemployment challenges. Additionally, the study shows a positive relationship between age and digital entrepreneurship aspirations. To foster entrepreneurship, the study suggests empowering young job seekers with digital knowledge and enabling graduates to create new opportunities for businesses and entrepreneurs. The study found significant effects of “Unemployment in the Sultanate of Oman (reasons and solutions)” on occupation, as indicated by a between-group sum of squares of 8.773, two degrees of freedom, and a mean square of 4.387, with an F value of 11.274, and a significance level of 0.000. On the other hand, the “Digital Entrepreneurship Sector” significantly affected occupation, with a between-groups sum of squares of 4.394, two degrees of freedom, and a mean square of 2.197, and an F value of 10.267 with a significance level of 0.000. Similarly, for the “Entrepreneurship Digital Infrastructure” variable, there was no significant difference between male and female mean scores (t = −1.516, df = 206, p = 0.131). Overall, the results indicate that the digital entrepreneurship sector significantly impacts occupation, while the entrepreneurship digital infrastructure has no significant effect. Additionally, female respondents showed a higher mean score in perceptions of “Unemployment in the Sultanate of Oman (reasons and solutions)” compared to male respondents. Full article

Recent literature provides alarming data on the increase in university academic stress. The role of personality in understanding and addressing this problem is well established. However, this evidence could be improved by adopting a person-centred approach (e.g., types), as opposed to the usual variable-centred approach (e.g., traits), and considering the role of gender. Our aim was to explore how personality types and gender relate to coping strategies and perceived coping efficacy for academic stress. A total of 810 university psychology students completed the NEO-FFI Inventory and the Coping Strategies Inventory. Post hoc tests for MANOVA and ANOVA were performed. Types and gender were used as predictors and coping strategies, and perceived coping efficacy as criteria. There was no type-gender interaction. Types combining low neuroticism-high conscientiousness (e.g., entrepreneur) chose the most adaptive coping strategies and showed the highest levels of perceived coping efficacy, while high neuroticism-low conscientiousness types (e.g., insecure) opted for maladaptive coping strategies and presented the lowest perceived coping efficacy. Gender was not associated with perceived coping efficacy but with use (e.g., women prefer emotional expression). The personality typology provided useful information on individual differences in coping with academic stress, which can help guide specific strategies to manage it. Full article

Despite scholarly debates on the role of entrepreneurial orientation, its effect on new venture performance remains largely understudied, particularly in the context of emerging economies. Determining this association is crucial and has an important implication for scholars and managers of SMEs to increase performance. Therefore, using the resource-based view and upper-echelon theories, this study examines this link by considering the mediating role of opportunity exploitation and the moderating role of transformational leadership in the case of an emerging market in Lebanon. The resource-based view theory discusses the importance of intangible and tangible resources in obtaining a sustainable competitive edge. The upper-echelon theory also connects the attributes of firm performance and top employee management. To achieve this purpose, we conducted a comprehensive survey of 411 managers and owners, 346 of whom were men and 65 of whom were women, of SMEs in the top five provinces of North Lebanon, South Lebanon, Mount Lebanon, Beirut, and Bekaa, where the majority of SMEs are located. This study also collected the data in 2022 and performed moderated mediation analysis to probe this nexus. The empirical results show that entrepreneurial orientation has a positive direct and indirect (through opportunity exploitation) effect on new venture performance. Furthermore, it reveals that opportunity exploitation has a positive effect on new venture performance and partially mediates the entrepreneurial orientation–new venture performance nexus. Furthermore, the results highlight that transformational leadership moderates the direct entrepreneurial orientation–new venture performance nexus, and the positive relationship is stronger for managers (or owners) with higher-level transformational leadership. Moreover, the results reveal that transformational leadership moderates the indirect effect between entrepreneurial orientation and new venture performance through opportunity exploitation, and the extent of the indirect effect is enhanced for managers (or owners) with higher-level transformational leadership. The results are robust and have important policy implications. The current research offers crucial managerial implications for the management of SMEs by paying attention to significant drivers of entrepreneurial orientation and opportunity exploitation. The findings also suggest that entrepreneurs and managers of new ventures must transform their entrepreneurial strategic posture into opportunity exploitation behaviors by pinpointing market inefficiencies and consumer needs, launching novel products and services, and taking advantage of opportunities for new products to enter the market to maximize financial gain. The role of women in promoting the production and consumption of vegetables at a family level towards mitigating the risk of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) is crucial. Women not only select and prepare food items consumed by their families but care about the health issues of family members. As research examining this critical role of women is scant, we attempted to understand how women as agro-entrepreneurs can promote vegetables to enhance healthcare situations. A field study was conducted in a northeastern district of Bangladesh from January to June 2019, adopting qualitative–participatory approaches that involved interviews, focus groups, and workshops. The study revealed that women play a vital role in taking care of the health of the family members, while their role in planning the family diet is exclusive. However, they have limited decision-making authority in the production and consumption of vegetables, and their knowledge and perception of NCDs are limited. The results imply that with enhanced capacity of vegetable production and better knowledge of nutrition and NCDs, women can improve family dietary habits by increasing the consumption of vegetables. Therefore, building the agro-entrepreneurial capacities of women in terms of knowledge, skills, access to finance, and decision-making authority at the family level would be a significant interventional approach for increased production and consumption of vegetables. We argue that public health strategies and policies addressing NCDs should incorporate this family-centric approach by promoting agro-entrepreneurship by women who would promote the production and consumption of vegetables. The complexity of today’s world demands a shift in education from knowledge acquisition to competency development for students to effectively address profession-related challenges. In particular, there is a need for social entrepreneurs who can act as catalysts for change in complex environments. Understanding the elements that shape students’ perception of themselves as social entrepreneurs allows us to grasp their capacity as catalysts for transformative action. The main purpose of this research is to showcase the findings of a diagnostic investigation carried out on a group of Mexican university students, assessing their perceived proficiency in social entrepreneurship and its sub-competencies. The study examined whether age or discipline influenced the perception of entrepreneurship in 328 students. The results revealed that age and study discipline played a crucial role in shaping students’ perception of their competency achievement. Younger students tended to perceive their abilities better, while advanced semester students were more cautious in assessing their entrepreneurial competencies. The trend also extended to sub-competencies, with younger students tending to perceive their social skills positively, while older students focused more on practical knowledge such as the economic and administrative aspects of entrepreneurship. Students in business also tended to view their skills more positively compared to students in other disciplines. The findings highlight the need to promote women’s social entrepreneurship and emphasize the importance of considering these relevant elements that are crucial to the concrete reality of potential female entrepreneurs. The study has significant implications for policymakers, educators, and researchers interested in promoting social entrepreneurship among women, particularly in the Latin American context. Based upon social identity theory, having a strategic entrepreneurial orientation is crucial for ventures seeking funding, since entrepreneurial orientation (viewed as an entrepreneurial organizational culture) has a significant influence on investors’ decision-making for resource allocation. However, the attitude of investors toward women entrepreneurs’ behavioral orientation is controversial. Women entrepreneurs may not benefit from specific behavioral orientations because of gender bias. In this study, we had a sample of 5105 ‘design and technology’ campaigns with explicit gender information on Kickstarter, utilizing a computer-aided text analysis dictionary of entrepreneurial orientation to examine whether the five dimensions of entrepreneurial orientation signals affected the relationship between women entrepreneurs and their performance in reward-based crowdfunding. Our findings demonstrated that investors tended to support women entrepreneurs who displayed many of the signals for autonomy and risk-taking, while backers were skeptical of women entrepreneurs displaying a high number of the signals for proactiveness. This study will enable an in-depth understanding of the link between investors’ decision-making and women’s entrepreneurial behaviors, in addition to determining which specific entrepreneurial behavior is important for helping women entrepreneurs to obtain funding in the context of reward-based crowdfunding, from a practical perspective. Women entrepreneurship is considered by many researchers as an imminent phenomenon of the 21st century, especially for developing countries. Due to its contribution to the economy and society, recent studies have focused on investigating its motivational factors, as well as achievements. Moreover, researchers have come up with different entrepreneurial perspectives in different societies and cultures and have called for further analysis. In this context, the main purpose of this research was to assess the driving factors, challenges, and perspectives of woman entrepreneurship in a post-communist country context. As part of the data collection process, a survey was conducted with 36 female entrepreneurs operating in the capital city of Albania, Tirana. The study results reveal that, even though there are no significant differences between the percentage of women who feel that they are being discriminated against and percentage of female entrepreneurs who perceive that their gender has positively affected the business growth, there is a positive significant difference regarding the percentages of women entrepreneurs who have been supported by their families and partners and those who have received heritage from their families. Special attention is addressed to the different factors that women experience in terms of entrepreneurial development. Another aim of this research is to provide different recommendations to be taken into consideration by the policymakers to improve the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Albania. Full article
