We are pleased to share an interview with the winner of the 2023 Antioxidants MDPI (ISSN 2076-3921) Young Investigator Award - Dr. Namgyu Lee. An assistant professor in the Department of Biomedical Science & Systems Biology at 단국대학교, Dr. Lee was chosen for this award due to the high citation rate her paper received. Her recent co-first author paper "Selenium reduction of ubiquinone via SQOR suppresses ferroptosis" was ranked in the top 1% of citations in its field over the past decade. We are pleased to share an interview with Prof. Dr. Peter Langridge, former Editor-in-Chief and current Section Editor-in-Chief of Agronomy MDPI (ISSN: 2073-4395). A Professor of Plant Science at University of Adelaide, Prof. Dr. Langridge's research has focused on the role of genetic technologies in crop improvement. "My advice is to approach every experiment with optimism, believing it will work. Of course, failures are inevitable, but they are also opportunities to learn." - Prof. Dr. Langridge See the full interview: https://brnw.ch/21wQgY1 #mdpi #openaccess #agronomy #research

All articles in Plants MDPI (ISSN 2223-7747) Vol 14, Issue 1, are now freely available to access, read and download: https://brnw.ch/21wQaWJ COVER STORY: The accumulation of free proline in plants has been associated with stress tolerance and, more recently, with plant development, especially in reproductive and elongating organs. Despite the correlation between proline effects and accumulation, the evidence suggests that proline metabolism, rather than proline itself, is the main cause of its multiple effects. However, the underlying mechanisms and the importance of these functions are still poorly understood. Based on the recently discovered interaction between proline metabolism and ROS signaling in modulating Arabidopsis root meristem size. Researchers from the Sapienza Università di Roma and Universität Konstanz propose that this interaction may be a possible mechanistic explanation for many of the functions attributed to proline, and they present a literature review to discuss and support this hypothesis.
