The 2023 citation metrics have been released in the Journal Citation Reports (JCR). This year, 237 MDPI journals were awarded an Impact Factor, an increase from 208 last year. Of the 237 ranked MDPI journals, 72% (171) are in the top quartiles, either Q1 or Q2. Ahead of the release of the Journal Citation Reports by Clarivate, MDPI surveyed the scientific community, asking, "Do you consider the Impact Factor of a journal when deciding where to publish your research?" A significant 78% of respondents confirmed that Impact Factor is a key factor in their journal selection process. This highlights the importance of these metrics in the publication process. As the world’s leading open access publisher, MDPI is proud to provide scholars with the opportunity to publish impactful research that matters. All articles in ChemEngineering MDPI (ISSN: 2254-9625) Vol 8, Issue 2, are now freely available to access, read and download: https://brnw.ch/21wKVKh COVER STORY: Research by authors from Brandenburgische Technische Universität Cottbus-Senftenberg focuses on the UV treatment of emerging and persistent perfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs), such as 6:2 fluorotelomer sulfonamide alkyl betaine (6:2 FTAB). The impact of ultraviolet radiation on the degradation of these substances has been heralded for its resistance to environmental degradation. Through rigorous investigation, the study uncovers the intricate mechanisms involving the species responsible for the degradation of 6:2 FTAB under different pH conditions. This research not only sheds light on effective pollutant reduction, but also paves the way for understanding the role of UV in environmental protection. A paper published in the open access journal Sustainability MDPI analyses the water footprint required for the production of avocado fruit in Mexico. The article, cited in The Conversation, states that the avocado fruit crop requires a significant amount of water for sufficient growth. The study found that avocado production in some years used the total amount of water dedicated to agriculture in Mexico. Production was also up to 120% over the volume of water that was granted to the agriculture municipality. These findings are important for the development of more sustainable agricultural practices for avocado production which currently does not align with UN sustainable goal 6 for the mitigation of water scarcity.
