    What is a Recruitment Company?

    You might sometimes hear a recruitment company referred to as an employment agency, but they are one and the same thing. The main focus is sourcing out high quality talent for companies to employ. Of course, this means developing strong working relationships with both clients and candidates, treating people well, and ensuring that you stay up to date with whatever is going on in the industry at the same time.

    Because much of the work a recruitment company does is on both sides, it’s important to have systems in place to ensure that nothing gets missed. You cannot focus too much on clients, e.g. businesses who need people to fill their job vacancies, and then neglect the candidates, e.g. the people you’re representing and trying to help them fulfil their career dreams.

    Effective focus on both sides means happy clients and candidates, and clients are more likely to use your services in the future when they need to look towards filling a new vacancy. There are countless new and established recruitment companies in the industry at any one time, so staying one step ahead is vital for success and growth.

    Recruitment companies also look for potential vacancies and opportunities, helping businesses to identify where a new role may be necessary, and streamlining the recruitment process overall.

    If you’ve ever tried to fill a vacancy before, you’ll understand how long-winded, tedious and costly the whole process can be. In the end, you cannot be 100% sure that you’ve chosen a person who is going to fulfil their potential within the role, or someone who is actually as high quality as they claim to be. When working with a recruitment company, businesses have this worry taken away, because candidates are screened by the agency and matched to the types of roles which suit their skills and experience best. The guess work is taken out of the equation, and there is more of a certainty that this is going to be the best person for the job.

    All of this equals less time spent on recruitment, less cost, less need to go back over the whole process because it wasn’t done correctly in the first place, and a smoother transition when the successful candidate starts their new role. This means no loss of time or productivity for the business, and gives them a better chance at growth for their own company that particular year.

    From a candidate's point of view, a recruitment company helps to find the best type of opportunities for them, according to their past experience, their skills, and what they’re looking for in their career. They also offer help with CV writing and give advice on how to excel during an interview. These services help to push candidates forward and prepare them for employment in the best type of role for them. It is the recruiter’s job to identify what type of job they would excel in and sell the vacancy to the candidate and encourage them to apply.

    As a recruitment company becomes more successful, businesses will go to them for their services, however, at first, you will need to be prepared to hustle a little. This means calling around companies, doing your homework, selling your services and ensuring that you keep your new client as happy as possible, finding them the candidate they need, in a timely manner.

    Once a client signs up with the recruitment company, the search begins for the ideal candidate. This means the company will look at their database and see if they have anyone who matches the company’s requirements. If so, they will be contacted and given information about the vacancy, encouraging them to apply.

    The company will also put out an advertisement in the most pertinent places, to help attract the right candidates, and may even head-hunt high-class talent they’re aware of and who may be perfect for the role. Once they have received several applications, the shortlisting process will begin.

    The company itself may do the short-listing and interviewing, but it could be that businesses themselves want a hand in things. It’s up to the recruitment company to find the best way forward for their client and help ensure that they’re happy at every stage of the recruitment process.

    For some contracts, once a suitable client has been selected from the interview, the process may end there. The business may want to do the drawing up of a contract and offer letters themselves. However, not all businesses have the time to do this, and in that case, this is an extra service that a quality recruitment company can offer to their clients.

    Obviously, the greater scope of services you can offer, the more you are going to attract new and impressive companies your way.

    We should also point out that candidates are able to sign up with several recruitment companies at any one time, giving them a greater chance at finding suitable and successful employment. That means that you’re constantly working against the clock, always competing against other agencies, some of which you may not even be aware of; a candidate isn’t at liberty to tell you whether they’re working with another agency or not.
