What to expect when you video call us

Video call service is only available from Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm AEST (except national public holidays). You can click the link on the footer to start video call service. Please note: you do not need an appointment to video call 1800RESPECT.  

When you use the 1800RESPECT video call service, you will need to:  

  1. Agree to our Privacy Policy and for the video call to be recorded. If you do not want to continue, we will ask you to contact us on another channel.  

  1. Provide your preferred name. You can provide a fake name if you prefer.  

  1. Provide your location (State or Territory). We collect this information for your safety, in case of an emergency. 

  1. Provide your mobile number so that we can send you a verification text. You should delete the verification text once your code has been used if you’re worried about someone finding out you contacted 1800RESPECT. 

  1. Read and agree to 1800RESPECT’s Terms and Conditions

  1. Allow access to the camera and microphone on your device or computer.

    • computer: macOS 10.11, Windows 7 or newer    

    • mobile device or tablet: iOS 11.0 or newer, iPadOS 13 or newer, Android 6.0 or newer   

  • A supported browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge).  

  • Another person can be in the room to support you during the video call. However, our counsellors will speak with the person seeking support.   

  • 1800RESPECT can arrange for an interpreter from the Translating and Interpreting Service (TIS) to join the video call via audio only.  

  • Anyone who is d/Deaf or finds it hard to hear or speak to hearing people on the phone, can contact 1800RESPECT via the National Relay Service (NRS). While the NRS has a Video Relay service, please note that it cannot be used in tandem with 1800RESPECT’s video call service. Third parties can only join 1800RESPECT’s Video Call service via audio only.
