Turkey Current Account Surplus Widens Sharply
Turkey’s current account surplus widened sharply to $4.324 billion in August 2024 from $0.489 billion in the corresponding month of the previous year. The goods account shortfall narrowed significantly to $2.911 billion in August from $7.148 billion a year earlier, and services account surplus increased to $8.696 billion from $8.493 billion. Meanwhile, primary income deficit went up to $1.475 billion in August from $0.945 billion in the corresponding month of the previous year, and secondary income surplus went down to $0.014 billion from $0.089 billion.

Turkey Current Account Swings to Surplus
Turkey posted a current account surplus of $0.57 billion in July 2024, compared to a deficit of $5.33 billion in the same period of the previous year. The goods shortfall sharply decreased to $5.102 billion from $10.785 billion a year earlier, while the services surplus increased to $6.873 billion from $6.447 billion. At the same time, the secondary income shifted to a surplus of $0.066 billion from $0.081 billion. Meanwhile, the primary income gap widened to $1.271 billion from $0.912 billion. Excluding gold and energy, the current account surplus rose significantly to $4.878 billion from $0.821 billion in the corresponding period last year.
