Paraguay Balance of Trade
In recent years, exports of agricultural commodities have surged in Paraguay. Shipments of soy account for 41 percent of total exports. Others include: meat (16 percent) , electric energy (15 percent) and cereals (7 percent). Main imports are: machinery, appliances and motors (28 percent of total imports); consumer goods (28 percent); fuels and lubricants (12 percent); chemicals (10 percent); and transport elements and accessories (7 percent). Paraguay’s trade deficit widened to USD 398.34 million in July 2024, from USD 275.27 million in the corresponding month of the previous year, as imports rose at a faster pace than exports. Exports rose by 6.8% compared to the previous year, reaching USD 1,085 million, driven by a significant increase in primary product shipments (16.5%) and industrial goods (21.9%). Meanwhile, imports jumped by 14.9% year-on-year to USD 1,483.36 million, driven by higher purchases of primary intermediate goods (22.7%), capital goods (11.7%) and consumer goods (9.6%).

Paraguay Trade Balance Deficit Narrows in June
Paraguay recorded a trade deficit of USD 232.94 million in June 2024, which narrowed from USD 368.17 million in the same period last year, as exports grew while imports decreased. Exports rose by 12.6% compared to the previous year, reaching USD 992.27 million, driven by a significant increase in primary product shipments (73.5%). Meanwhile, imports declined by 1.9% year-on-year to USD 1,225.19 million, attributed to reduced purchases of intermediate goods (-1.7%) and capital goods (-7.9%).
