My comments: Lan Zhan is really going through it in this story. I really loved how Wei Ying was reaching out to him and that ending was pure perfection, so uplifting!
Excerpt: Lan Zhan is unsure when it first starts. All he knows is that one day, he wakes up, and finds that he moves as though lead replaces his marrow. It weighs in him, heavy, and leaves him breathless, even though he’s of perfect fitness and physical health. The doctor told him that he was almost a computer simulation of a human.

My comments: In my hours of need (AO3 is down right now), I turn to you (Squidgeworld) and I feast upon your fics. I really loved this. Such a good representation of depression and so in-character for everyone, Wen Qing, Jiang Cheng, Lan Zhan. I loved the ending, it was so poignant, so fitting.
Excerpt: Wen Qing looks down at her wrist to see the watch wrapped around it, sucks the air through her teeth, says, “Sorry. I gotta go. My shift’s coming up.”
She rushes out of the room, the apartment, pats his shoulder, which means, I love you, goodbye, and leaves. The door closes with a solemn squeak. The hinges need to be greased, Wei Ying thinks.
The dishes need to be washed. The laundry needs to be done. The plants need to be watered.
Wei Ying does none of those. He goes to his room and lies in his bed, in the covers that are months old and sighs, deep.

Nightmare was in the middle of speaking to the murder trio when he felt it, the distinct feeling of despair that was overwhelming. It was something he had felt before ending up with the three of his cohorts- wards- no, the better phrasing these days would be 'his boys'. He was the oldest by a few hundred years, and they were like children, but in adult form.
Anyway, it was that exact feeling that had drawn him to each of them, with Killer it was despair mixed with overwhelming guilt. With Dust, it was an emptiness that had come along, just knowing the human was no longer interested in resetting after Dust had murdered over and over, letting him drown in it. With Horror it had been an overwhelming hunger that had caused overwhelming food anxiety that took forever to get under control.
This- this despair was like that, but there was a sadness, a loneliness, and he could taste it more than any other form of negativity right now. It was the strongest feeling throughout the multiverse and it was calling to him, practically screaming at him.
