The contiguous United States, or officially the conterminous United States, is the 48 U.S. states that touch one another, as well as the District of Columbia.
That excludes the states of Alaska and Hawaii and all island territories and U.S. possessions such as American Samoa, U.S. Virgin Islands, Northern Mariana Islands, Guam and Puerto Rico.
