Unofficial symbols
[endre wikiteksten]Hello, it's been brought to my attention that many of the symbols you add to articles on dwarf planets and similar don't have any official status. - @Ranveig: I'm confused. The person you're talking about is objecting to international symbols (as at 3 Juno) that have been in use for centuries, and WP-nn already uses planetary symbols that don't have any official status, e.g. for Jupiter and Saturn. (On WP-no those are even utmerkede artikler -- with their unofficial symbols.) Revert what you like, of course, but it's a strange objection. Kwamikagami (diskusjon) 19. januar 2022 kl. 08:26 (CET)
- Some of the symbols might have been in use for centuries. Others are quite frankly described as «a proposed symbol of Haumea. It's the invention of a private person, so it has no offical status or big usage». Bw --M. Haugen (diskusjon) 19. januar 2022 kl. 08:30 (CET)
- @Ranveig: That's been used as the symbol for Haumea by NASA, and is the most common symbol in astrological circles, if you place any weight in such things -- but all of the planetary symbols are astrological, including the ones in the utmerkede artikler. The one for Haumea hasn't been around for very long because it was only discovered a few years ago. I suppose I should add the NASA ref to the symbol. - At the suggestion of the editor on WP-no, I've added a ref to that file, and will do the same to others. I don't know if the Juno symbol has ever been used by NASA, but your article on asteroids should have some refs. I've cleaned up the table a bit, but those symbols were there before me.
