Chronology
The LPL Summer 2023 split is the second split of the 2023 LPL season, maintaining all 17 teams from Spring Season. JD Gaming will be the defending title champions, and successfully defended their title after a 3-2 victory over LNG Esports in the Grand Finals, held at Xi'an Qujiang Sports Arena.
Format[edit]
- Group Stage
- Single round robin
- All matches are Bo3
- Top 10 advanced to Playoffs
- Top 2 teams get seeded into the semifinals
- 3rd and 4th place teams get seeded into the last round of playoffs
- 5th and 6th place teams get seeded into the second round of playoffs
- 7 - 10th place teams get seeded into the first round of playoffs
- Tiebreakers
- If two or more teams have won the same number of matches, the tie will be broken by the order:
- Games differential
- Head-to-head results
- If two or more teams have won the same number of matches, the tie will be broken by the order:
- Group Stage Side Selection Procedure
- The first listed team will pick sides for Game 1, the second listed will pick sides for Game 2.
- If the Bo3 series goes to Game 3, the team who won the game in the shorter time will pick the side for Game 3.
- Playoffs
- Phase One: King-of-the-Hill
- 3rd - 10th seeded teams from Group Stage are divided into two brackets to play a King-of-the-Hill format
- 3rd, 6th, 7th and 10th seed are in one bracket (the first bracket), the other 4 seeds are in the other
- The winners advance to Phase Two
- The winner of the first bracket faces 2nd seed team in the Double-Elimination Stage, the other faces the 1st seed
- 3rd - 10th seeded teams from Group Stage are divided into two brackets to play a King-of-the-Hill format
- Phase Two: Double-Elimination
- Four teams play in a Double-Elimination format to compete for the championship
- All matches are Bo5
- Phase One: King-of-the-Hill
- Free Side Selection Privilege
- Before the start of the series, the higher seed team can choose which three games of the Bo5 series to pick the side.
- This is only for the first round of the Playoffs Phase One.
- Standard Side Selection Procedure
- For the upper bracket Finals and lower bracket matches in Playoffs Phase Two, the Side seleciton Privilege will be determined by coin toss. Besides that, the higher seeded teams (in Grand Finals, the upper bracket winner) will have the side selection for game 1 of the series.
- Subsequently, the loser of the previous game will have side selection privilege.
