https://lnkd.in/eg4btr_D The Minister of Industry and Tourism, Jordi Hereu, has taken stock of the different PERTEs managed by his department, with a special emphasis on the automotive industry and the decarbonisation of production processes. The Council of Ministers has approved a Royal Decree regulating the direct granting of a subsidy to the company Cobra Solutions for an amount of 150 million euros, for the execution of the Green Cobra project, within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan. The project aims to develop a complete green hydrogen supply chain in Spain, including the production, storage, transportation and distribution of hydrogen, said the Minister of Industry and Tourism, Jordi Hereu, at the press conference following the Council of Ministers. This project, which will be located in Cartagena and Castellón, is defined by the EU as an Important Project of Common European Interest (IPCEI) and, therefore, the RD determines that the reasons that accredit the public, social and economic interest for the granting of this subsidy of 150 million euros are met. The project foresees investments by Cobra of 742 million euros, and is estimated to have an impact on employment of around more than 500 direct jobs, and more than 600 indirect jobs. “We estimate a reduction in CO2 emissions during hydrogen production of one million tons over the life of the project,” according to Hereu.

This includes, for example, fuel cell vehicle platforms for use in buses and trucks. 🔹The development of high-performance fuel cell technologies, which use hydrogen to generate electricity with sufficient power to move ships and locomotives. 🔹The development of next generation on-board storage solutions for hydrogen. For the use in aircraft, lightweight, yet robust hydrogen tanks are necessary ensuring safety and efficiency in flight conditions. 🔹The development of technologies to produce hydrogen for mobility and transport applications, in particular for supplying hydrogen refuelling stations on-site with pressurised, 99.99% pure fuel-cell-grade hydrogen. 👏 IPCEI Hy2Move complements the first three IPCEIs on the hydrogen value chain. 1️⃣The Commission approved IPCEI ‘Hy2Tech' on 15 July 2022, which focuses on the development of hydrogen technologies for end users. 2️⃣IPCEI ‘Hy2Use' was approved on 21 September 2022 and focuses on hydrogen applications in the industrial sector. 3️⃣IPCEI ‘Hy2Infra', approved by the Commission on 15 February 2024, concerns infrastructure investments, which are not covered by the first two IPCEIs. 📆The completion of the overall IPCEI is expected by 2031, with timelines varying in function of the individual projects and the companies involved. Interesting reading talking about Iberdrola´s position on #NuclearPower. The Spanish company has joined the #American #BigTech that believe that #NuclearPower can be the solution to supply power to technology companies operating energy-intensive #DataCentres in the region... Company´s CEO remarked that #NuclearPowerPlants can supply #CleanPower 24/7 as data centres required, emphasized that lifetime extensions for existing reactors in #Europe were “technically” possible and there was “no reason" for governments to block them, and mentioned the construction of #SMRs as a potentail option to deliver greater volumes by the turn of the decade...

NextEnergy Capital to acquire 248MW Spanish solar portfolio - NextPower V ESG has entered a binding agreement to acquire a 248MW portfolio of 12 solar PV projects in North-Eastern Spain. - This investment marks the fourth for the Fund following a recent long-term debt financing closure for an operational portfolio in the same region. - NPV ESG recently acquired a 100MW solar project in the USA and two operational CfD portfolios of 50MW and 66MW in Europe. - The Fund's portfolio has expanded to 348MW in construction and 116MW in operations, with over 500MW in exclusivity or advanced negotiation. - Since launching, NPV ESG has reviewed over 88GW of pipeline opportunities, identifying 18GW of attractive investments for further evaluation. - NPV ESG has secured $745 million in total commitments from various investors and aims to raise $1.5 billion. - The team is optimistic about investment opportunities due to lower solar photovoltaic module costs and higher power prices. - NPV ESG's first operational assets are expected to pay dividends in the second half of 2024. - The Fund has a disciplined revenue model with strong credit-worthy counterparties to ensure long-term stable cashflow generation. - Classified as an Article 9 Fund under the EU SFDR, NPV ESG aims to deliver measurable impacts including biodiversity measures. - Once reaching its investment ceiling and achieving approximately 4-5GW, NPV ESG is projected to provide clean energy for up to 1.1 million households and avoid nearly 220 million m³ of natural gas consumption annually. - The investment strategy focuses on the solar+ infrastructure sector in carefully selected OECD markets, aiming to build substantial portfolios and divest before 2033. - Aldo Beolchini highlighted the Fund's capacity to deploy capital efficiently, adding over 360MW in just twelve weeks. - Antonio Salvati expressed excitement about the acquisition and the potential for further investments in Iberia through their Madrid office. https://lnkd.in/g5YT8X5w

MET Energía España, a subsidiary of Swiss-based MET Group, has signed two PPAs to supply 100% clean energy to Atlantic Copper in Spain. “One of MET’s current strengths in the European electricity markets is the ability to structure innovative long-term solutions in a transparent manner, generating value for both renewable producers and large industrial customers,” said Alberto Pérez Aparicio, Power Director of MET Energía España. “The two agreements promote new formulas for the decarbonisation of the Spanish industry.” The agreements involve several companies and will be executed in two distinct phases. Initially, MET Energía España secured a deal with Prosolia Energy Group to purchase electricity from the 23 MWp Sant Jordi photovoltaic plant in Castellón. The Sant Jordi plant is the largest in the Valencian Community and the agreement spans a term of 10 years. In the second phase, MET Energía España entered into an agreement with Atlantic Copper and Fortia Energía to supply the green electricity generated by the Sant Jordi photovoltaic plant to the copper producer. The PPA includes a 100% guarantee of origin certificate. Javier Martinez Sanz, CEO of Prosolia Energy, commented: “With this strategic agreement we consolidate our position as an Independent Power Producer and reinforce our commitment to continue contributing to the energy decarbonisation and environmental sustainability of the European industrial fabric." Iberdrola has obtained a favourable Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the Alcántara II reversible hydroelectric pumping station, located in Extremadura, southwest Spain. The Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge issued the resolution for the major infrastructure project. The Alcántara II plant will have a capacity of 440 MW and reversible energy storage of 16 million kWh, which equates to the daily electricity consumption of over 4 million people. The facility will be capable of providing up to 37 hours of continuous operation at full load. In addition, the project is expected to generate over 1,000 GWh per year, avoiding an estimated 355,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions per annum, With a favourable EIS and a grid access permit in place, the project now awaits the issuance of the prior administrative authorisation. Last July, the project received €44.9 million from the Institute for Energy Diversification and Saving (IDAE). It was recognised as the best proposal in terms of economic viability and technical characteristics, securing maximum aid per installed capacity under the European Union’s Next GenerationEU Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan. “Today, pumped hydro is the most efficient large-scale storage system available,” Iberdrola said in a statement. “It allows the storage of surplus energy from unmanageable renewable energy sources, solar and wind, to be delivered at the times when it is most needed, providing stability to the electricity system, as it can generate significant amounts of clean energy with a very fast response time.” #cleanenergy

Statkraft Finalizes Acquisition of Elecnor’s Subsidiary Enerfin On November 17, 2023, Statkraft signed an agreement with the Spanish company Elecnor to acquire its renewables subsidiary, Enerfin. This transaction has now been finalized. The portfolio presents significant opportunities for repowering wind farms, hybridization, and battery storage. Additionally, the acquisition enhances market operations in both Spain and Brazil. As previously announced, Statkraft plans to divest the Enerfin portfolio in Canada, the US, Colombia, Australia, and Chile. Grenergy Renovables Speeds Up Construction of World's Largest Battery Storage System. Spain's Grenergy Renovables and Asia's BYD, a manufacturer of electric vehicles and battery energy storage systems (#BESS), have extended the supply agreement for the Oasis de Atacama project in #Chile to 3 GWh, which will thus have the largest BESS in the world. The agreement now covers the third phase of the 1 GW of #solar and 4.1 GWh of #storageproject in the #Atacama Desert in northern Chile, after the companies initially agreed to 1.1 GWh of #BESS equipment for the first phase in January. #OasisdeAtacama is the largest #storage project in the world.
