[edit]Inherited from Proto-Balto-Slavic *karbás, ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *(s)kerbʰ-, *(s)korbʰ- (“to bend”). Cognate with Lithuanian kar̃bas (“basket”) and Latvian kā̀rba (“basket”). Relation with Latin corbis (“basket”) uncertain (see there for other etymologies).
