Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/India

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to India. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.

Adding a new AfD discussion
Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
  1. Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
  2. You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|India|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
Removing a closed AfD discussion
Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
Other types of discussions
You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to India. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
Further information
For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.

This list is also part of the larger list of deletion debates related to Asia.

Scientist without a significant publication record or any awards. (There are others with the same name who are more notable.) The only possible claims would be based upon founding the company Theranautilus, but I am unclear whether that page itself passes notability. Appin closed in 2013. The article is facing a string of changes where there may be a WP:SOCK (see latest changes). Delete according to WP:ATTACK which summarizes that the article has a denigrating purpose, rather than an informational one. WP:NPOV and WP:LBL, because the article is only about calmony even if it is quoted by notable media sources. Dmitry Bobriakov (talk) 15:17, 24 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Keep: "Delete according to WP: ATTACK" is total nonsense. Per WP: ATTACK, in order for this page to be deleted, the nominator would need to explain why there are no diffs that we can revert to. That's going to be an uphill battle, given that the current state of the article does not read like an attack page. The nominator has said themselves that WP: GNG is met, so there's nothing to discuss and the article should be kept. HyperAccelerated (talk) 21:36, 25 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

He got the attention in news media when he was allegedly shot by notorious gangster Lawrence Bishnoi gang and he was also a president of state level organisation i.e., Shree Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena. But we do not create pages for presidents of caste based state organisations like Rajasthan Jat Mahasabha or Rajput Karni Sena of Rajasthan. If you see the sources then in almost all sources it is about “he shot by bishnoi gang”. I think he fails WP:GNG because he got attention only due to single event of being shot by alleged notorious gangster. TheSlumPanda (talk) 12:40, 24 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

(Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL)

The article on Harshada Pathare fails to meet Wikipedia's notability guidelines for authors and filmmakers. The references cited are primarily from non-independent or low-quality sources, such as News24, Yahoo Finance, and promotional platforms like the Tagore International Film Festival’s own website. These sources lack the depth and reliability required to establish significant coverage or independent notability. Additionally, the article has a promotional tone, which violates Unambiguous Advertising or Promotion. The subject's notable achievements, including awards and books, are not adequately supported by independent, verifiable sources.

There is also a possible Conflict of Interest, as this subject has a significant creation and deletion history dating back to 2018, with five drafts and one main space article being deleted under G11. It is unlikely that this repeated effort to create the article is coincidental, especially considering the subject's limited notability as evidenced by their sparse Google presence. This raises questions about why multiple attempts have been made to establish this page, despite a lack of substantial independent coverage.

Upon further investigation, the creator of this page appears to have a pattern of creating articles with extensive personal data, often citing only one or two references. This raises concerns about verifiability and how the creator is obtaining such detailed information when it is not publicly available. These issues, combined with the lack of reliable, independent sources and a promotional tone, warrant deletion of this article for failing to meet Wikipedia’s standards for notability, neutrality, and verifiability. The subject of this page does not meet notability standards WP:NBIO and WP:GNG or WP:SNG. Citations are just WP:ROUTINE. Also, this might be a case of article hijacking WP:AHIJACK. (Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL)

The article on Rudraneil Sengupta does not meet Wikipedia's notability guidelines for biographies, as it lacks adequate independent and reliable sources to substantiate the subject's significance. While the article attempts to document his career and achievements, it is insufficiently supported by verifiable evidence from secondary sources providing substantial coverage of his life and work.

Of the references cited in the article, only the first citation meets the criteria for a reliable source. The rest of the references merely mention Sengupta in passing, failing to offer independent or in-depth analysis of his contributions. This is not enough to establish notability under Wikipedia's standards, which require significant, independent coverage from credible sources.

A quick Google search further confirms the lack of independent coverage. Most search results are either related to Sengupta's published works or are affiliated with organizations he has worked for. There is no significant independent recognition or detailed media coverage, which is essential to meet notability guidelines.

The article also claims that Sengupta has received awards such as the Ramnath Goenka Award and the SOPA Award, but these claims are not supported by verifiable sources within the article or by any independent third-party confirmation. Without proper citations, such assertions cannot be deemed reliable or sufficient to demonstrate his notability.

Much of the content appears to be derived from primary sources or editorialized interpretations of his career. Wikipedia's verifiability and neutrality policies require that biographical content rely on independent, third-party sources to ensure reliability.

In conclusion, this article fails to meet Wikipedia's General Notability Guidelines and standards for Reliable Sources. As a result, I am nominating this article for deletion. Kriji Sehamati (talk) 15:13, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Pawan Reley (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) – (View AfD | edits since nomination)
(Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL)

This article does not meet Wikipedia's notability guidelines as it lacks significant coverage in reliable, independent sources. Many references cited in the article are either promotional or lack credibility. Citations 13, 14, and 15 are press releases, which are inherently self-promotional and do not establish notability. Additionally, citations 16 and 17 are from Amazon, a platform unsuitable for verifying the significance of an individual's achievements. The article also appears promotional in tone, emphasizing awards and achievements without adequate independent verification. A neutral point of view is essential on Wikipedia, and the content here violates this principle. Furthermore, a preliminary Google search fails to uncover substantial, independent coverage of Pawan Reley, further undermining claims of notability. Without credible, independent sources to substantiate the subject's achievements and influence, this article fails to demonstrate that the individual meets the notability requirements for inclusion on Wikipedia. • Info I wanted to clarify that I have added references related to the book mentioned in the article, with links to where the book is actually available. It is important to include such book references as they provide verifiable sources for the information. Agreed with you, notability is not inherited. However there are several references that have been added to the article wherein it is visible that a 17 year old girl is achieving success in her own right by organising world class sports events abroad, involved in philanthropic midday meal schemes for the poor in India. At the age of 17 kids are playing video games and roller blading and not thinking about the poor. Read the articles that are added as source and if you still feel that my article does not pass muster then the decision is yours. I have been editing wiki for last 7 years, I don't indulge in any kind of promotion. Intalk (talk) 04:35, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The subject Nicolle Verma is a notable figure in Romania and India both. She has been involved in philanthropic activities herself and several articles in the Indian press are referenced. Also, she organised a kabaddi match in Dubai on her own at a stadium with Bollywood actor Suniel Shetty as the Chief Guest. This person passes muster with WP guidelines on WP:GNG and passes all tests. If 17 year olds who are being covered by the press in a foreign country and their work is being appreciated by the masses, then what would pass WP guidelines?

The Verma Family Website No This is her family's official website. Yes Presumably, per WP:ABOUTSELF No The cited page is about Abhishek Verma, doesn't mention Nicolle once. No
The Verma Family Youtube No This is her family's official youtube channel Yes Presumably, per WP:ABOUTSELF Yes I only watched five seconds, but I'll be generous. No
LiveUtterPradesh and AajKikHabar. Mentions Nicolle a few times with a few pictures her looking pretty, but it's all in context of the shelter opening, nothing about her specifically. No
NKTV, OutlookIndia and RepublicWorld No Same as above, identical copy and obvious churnalism. Should have been noticed by the article creator. ~ I imagine the information about Kabaddi is accurate, even if the language is a bit over the top. No This only mentions Nicolle Verma once, in passing. No
BusinessStandard No Credit where it's due, this is clearly labled as a press release. ~ Again, I assume the sports information is accurate. No This mentions Abhishek Verma once in passing but doesn't mention Nicolle once. No

Non notable political party. The leader of this party gained some notoriety for filing a false affidavit. @Jupitus Smart: Yeah, I guess you might be right... I'm not from India, so I'm not really familiar with India's political system, but I'm trying to do my best to figure things out. (e.g. I have now realized that I should probably link "unrecognized" to Politics of India § Registered Unrecognized Political Party (RUPP)) I have now done some mostly-thorough searching through various public and licensed resources that I have access to, and here are the statistics of what I found (though keep in mind that my criteria for what to list and what to merge vs keep separate have been a bit inconsistent):
  • 83 articles/books/documents total
    • 12 were about Nellai R. Jebamani in the Janata Party
    • 25 were just lists of election candidates or results or similar
    • 37 were just about Mohanraj, the party leader
    • 9 actually have information about the party beyond Mohanraj and election participation and performance:

"I got voluntary retirement from the police service, because of corruption." He has named his party as Jebamani Janata Party after his father.
The sources about Nellai R. Jebamani are not directly relevant. The lists and election results are routine coverage, if that doctrine applies to this kind of article. The sources about Mohanraj clearly do not have significant coverage of the party if their only mention is something like '[...] Mohanraj of the Jebamani Janata Party [...]'. These last nine sources have some coverage of the party, but I'm not sure if it rises to the level of being Significant Coverage... #1-4 are still routine coverage, and #5-9 have only very small amounts of information about the party. However, there are still some unexplored avenues for finding sources: in particular, I have not exhausted the Google Search or Internet Archive results, and I have not really tried searching in Devanagari script, just Latin script...
However, given how much I found about Mohanraj / Mohan Raj, do you think would might be notable enough? If so, I might try to pivot this article into an article about him? The sources I've found are mostly about various litigation he's filed, the false affidavits you mentioned, and a little bit of biographical information. The article I cited from The Week gives the impression of being a short biography of him.

The Wikipedia page for IIMUN (India's International Movement to Unite Nations) does not meet Wikipedia's notability criteria as outlined in the General Notability Guidelines (GNG). While the organization claims widespread activity and recognition, the sources cited are primarily self-published or lack significant, reliable secondary coverage in independent publications. The majority of the references either originate from IIMUN itself, social media posts, or promotional material, which are insufficient to establish notability. Furthermore, the achievements mentioned, such as organizing large-scale conferences and initiatives like "Find a Bed," fail to receive substantial and consistent coverage from reputable third-party sources over a significant period. Without verifiable, independent, and non-trivial coverage, the subject cannot be deemed notable under Wikipedia's policies. Therefore, the article does not merit inclusion and should be considered for deletion. Likehumansdo (talk) 09:29, 18 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The existence of this port is questionable due to a serious lack of sources. A Google search yields no results for the so-called "Farakka Port". The cited sources in the article refer instead to a Farakka inland waterway, used for transporting coal to the Farakka Super Thermal Power Station near the Farakka Barrage. It seems it is actually referring to a floating terminal listed here. In any case, the topic fails to meet WP:GNG. The Doom Patrol (talk) 09:01, 15 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment: I see people bringing up NFF as far as production goes. I want to explain a bit about the requirements for an unreleased film establishing notability. To put it bluntly, production starting is not a sign of notability. The guideline is basically that people should not even consider creating articles for unreleased films unless production has begun. If production has begun then an article might be doable, however the article creator(s) would still need to establish how the production is notable in and of itself. In other words, if the film were to be cancelled today and production ground to a complete and total halt, would the current amount and quality of sourcing be enough to establish notability in the here and now?
The reason this came about is because for a while there Wikipedia has a rather big issue with people creating pages for announced films. No production is guaranteed, so there were quite a few films that were stuck in development hell. Names and companies might be attached or some other level of pre-production done, but it never led to any actual production.
As far as coverage goes, keep in mind that there has to be quite a bit and it has to be in depth. This is where it gets tricky, because marketing companies will flood media outlets with what is essentially the same content over and over again. They may announce a single name or change, but ultimately it's all coming from the same press release or statement. Right now the article's production section is non-existent and the current sourcing in the article is pretty paltry. I'm not saying that the film is absolutely non-notable, just that right now it's not really super convincing that this passes NFILM. I'm just concerned that the arguments for keep here are arguing that production has commenced but aren't really backing it up with sourcing to show where the production is notable. I'll see what I can do to expand this, but this really needs more/better sourcing than what is in the article. ReaderofthePack(formerly Tokyogirl79) (。◕‿◕。) 16:33, 17 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've expanded it but I'm still a bit uneasy saying that this passes NFILM. Production is completed, but there really wasn't a lot of coverage of the actual production. Most of it was either pre-production announcements or a rehash of pre-production announcements, stating that filming had started. Nobody really talked about the production. Everyone was pretty close mouthed about this. If this were to be an indefinitely shelved film (meaning the actual film was never released and it was used as a tax write-off), then I'm not certain that the current amount of coverage is really enough to establish notability for the movie.
I'm not against the film having an article, so it's not like I'm saying all of this because I'm a deletionist. (I lean more towards inclusion.) It's just that I don't think that the current coverage puts this comfortably out of reach of deletion, if you look at this from the perspective of "if this never releases or gets more coverage". ReaderofthePack(formerly Tokyogirl79) (。◕‿◕。) 17:13, 17 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Weak delete. I agree with Reader's analysis above. Completing production doesn't in and of itself show notability, it's just a reasonable indicator that information showing notability likely exists. Here, though, no one has been able to show that is the case, so deletion is warranted. I'm at weak delete since the article certainly is doing no harm; it's not excessively promotional and the essentials of the article clearly are accurate. But it's unreleased, and there's no objective basis to say whether it ever will be, and it's standalone notability is wanting. All you have added so far is just brand promoted content, routine coverage and passing mentions with no bylines. Nearly five years on Wikipedia, yet how you interpret WP:NFIC to fit your own views is astonishing.
Here, "distributed domestically in a country" means distributed within India. This film didn't see the light outside Gujarat and we are not maintaining a database of films released in India, but rather of notable films released in India. Comparing WP:NFIC#3's weight of a film being released/distributed domestically in a country is nowhere close to that of a film being distributed within a state. Jeraxmoira🐉 (talk) 05:10, 8 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
"didn't see the light outside Gujarat" is an absurd rationale. Indian cinema, being the largest producer of films globally, comprises multiple industries based on language and regional distinctions. The subject here being included in the Gujarati cinema, though less prominent than its counterparts like Bollywood or Tollywood, is still a significant part of this spectrum. Drawing a comparison between Gujarati cinema and the broader, more commercially dominant segments of Indian cinema is flawed. Keep in mind that Wikipedia:Notability is not a level playing field. MimsMENTOR talk 07:44, 8 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Don't bring essays here. If you want to change existing policies, start an RFC at Wikipedia talk:Notability (films).
The current guidelines only support films that are successfully distributed domestically in a country that is not a major film-producing country. You have contradicted yourself by mentioning "Indian cinema, being the largest producer of films globally". WP:NFIC#3 does not apply to major film producing countries and if Saiyar Mori Re were a significant part of this spectrum, it would have received reviews in reliable sources. Instead, it only has paid PR. Jeraxmoira🐉 (talk) 07:57, 8 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

None of the above news media outlets covered or reviewed the film after its release. It seems you have overlooked both the sources and the nomination rationale. Would you mind sharing your source analysis below? Mims Mentor Jeraxmoira🐉 (talk) 11:14, 8 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Jeraxmoira Before diving into a source analysis, could you clarify or provide evidence for your claim that each of all sources mentioned are "(part of PR)"? MimsMENTOR talk 11:33, 8 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The lack of coverage following the film's release is sufficient evidence. Apart from that, the OneIndia article is marked as "Partner Content". As for the trailer launch, inviting all the news media is standard practice and has been done this way consistently. Jeraxmoira🐉 (talk) 11:39, 8 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I see your point about the "partner content", I do agree with that. However, when I emphasized the need for "collective reviewing" and "additional consideration" of the sources. I recognize that the coverage may not be strong enough to 'firmly keep' the article, but your own analysis doesn't solidly push for deletion either, leaning more towards WP:BARE. As for PR evidence, there isn't concrete proof to back up that claim you made (when you are talking about policies). Pre-release/press release (earned media) coverage isn’t inherently promotional, and reputable outlets like TOI often feature pre-release interviews without the coverage being purely PR-driven. MimsMENTOR talk 12:40, 8 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You are bringing in more essays to XfDs. Please understand that essays are not P&G and hold no significant value in XfDs. The TOI sources are insufficient for a standalone article, especially given that there are literally zero reviews available. There are three articles about the trailer launch featuring the same banner image, yet you believe this isn't sufficient evidence that the press was invited to the event. The sources here are nowhere close to meeting GNG or NFILM. If you disagree, please provide a source analysis that might help me better understand your point of view. Jeraxmoira🐉 (talk) 13:16, 8 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Essays arent binding, but they offer relevant interpretations in debates like XfDs, especially for borderline cases. Dismissing them outright doesnt negate their value in offering nuance. The TOI sources, while not extensive, still provide verifiable coverage. Prerelease coverage is common, even for non-blockbuster films. Moreover, you havent fully explained why multiple outlets covering the same trailer launch definitively proves PR involvement. The case is WP:BARE now. I believe I’ve made it clear what aspects of the discussion align with GNG, based on policy guidelines. The nominator seems fixated on a single point and dismisses valid considerations by labeling them "essays," which is unproductive. Since the conversation is going in circles, I’ll be stepping back. I suggest exploring more sources from Gujarati media to verify additional coverage of the film instead of narrowing the focus to a single angle.--MimsMENTOR talk 14:07, 8 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    So, no source analysis? Cool. Jeraxmoira🐉 (talk) 14:23, 8 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Why? to count in more essay? Sorry No! MimsMENTOR talk 15:02, 8 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment: These sources can be used to write an article, but they certainly do not meet the standards required to establish GNG and there are no sources available after the film's release. Regarding WP:NFILM, there are literally no reviews for this film, despite it being released in the internet era. The fact that all the sources below greatly appreciate the film, its songs, trailer and its success, yet none of them have published a review, is quite amusing.

  • Weak delete. The best source I could find that wasn't clearly sponsored content was this, and IMHO that isn't enough. The other material is either sponsored, or less substantive. It's not nothing, though, and it's possible I am missing material in other languages, although I did search using the transliterated title. If the director or producer were notable, there is perhaps enough coverage to insert a few sentences into their biographies, but I see we do not have articles about them. Looking at the sources, it does not pass WP:GNG even. Mostly all the sources available on google are discussing her replacement in a notable show, see [20], [21], [22]. Taabii (talk) 13:31, 7 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • The sources are quite poor and not independent of the subject with claims and interviews. Subject fails the criteria for WP:NACTOR who did not have significant roles in "multiple" notable films, television shows, stage performances, or other productions; or made unique, prolific or innovative contributions to a field of entertainment. RangersRus (talk) 16:40, 12 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep The sources are reliable, and the subject is well-researched with verifiable claims.

  • Delete I can't find anything but interviews for this lady. No independent coverage. She has acted in one TV show, and what looks like an extra(?) in a film. I have done a search (searches from the UK aren't always good these days), I would be happy to re-evaluate my vote if idependent sources can be found. At the moment, this article doesn't demonstrate it complies with WP:GNG.Knitsey (talk) 16:41, 23 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Bhavishya Malika Puran (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) – (View AfD | edits since nomination)

I propose taking action on the article "Bhavishya Malika Puran" as it solely presents propaganda spread by news channels for financial gain. Context: The article is highly disputed, and its accuracy as a translation of the original Bhavishya Malika remains unverified. News channels have extensively covered this topic, primarily repeating the claims made by the Pandit. Unfortunately, the errors in this translated book, which appears to be motivated by financial interests, have gone unchallenged. Having carefully examined the book and its issues, I recommend one of the following actions: 1. Archive the article until credible evidence supporting its claims is provided. Or 2. Add a disclaimer to the article stating that it is a controversial issue and establish a Reception section to present a balanced view. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kharavela Deva (talkcontribs) 12:06, 7 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete. The book is self published through Notion Press publisher. Book fails WP:NBOOK. Page does not have multiple reviews from reliable sources. I can not find if book has won a major literary award and if the book has been considered by reliable sources to have made a significant contribution in any area. Sources on the page are simply poor.
