Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Oceania

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Oceania. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.

Adding a new AfD discussion
Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
  1. Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
  2. You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Oceania|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
Removing a closed AfD discussion
Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
Other types of discussions
You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Oceania. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
Further information
For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.

  • Here is my problem with these stand-alone articles. All four disciplines are often not contested. There are often not enough competitors to award a bronze medal, and in some cases, even a silver medal. Many of these competitions featured no more than two or three participants. And most of the competitors who are listed are redlinked or unlinked (ie. themselves not notable). The competition results and scores are included (or should be included) on a skaters' individual article. The medal results are included on the parent article (in this case, Australian Figure Skating Championships). But these nations with small national championships are just not worth trying to maintain individual articles for each competition. Bgsu98 (Talk) 19:56, 26 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

WP:BLP of a cabaret performer, not properly sourced as passing inclusion criteria for performers. As always, people are not automatically entitled to have Wikipedia articles just because they exist, and have to show certain specific markers of achievement sourced to a WP:GNG-worthy depth and volume of third-party coverage in reliable sources -- but the only notability claim in evidence here is that Miz Ima Starr exists, and the article is referenced almost entirely to event calendar listings and the self-published websites of venues where she's performed, which aren't support for notability. The only potentially decent source is one newspaper article that is paywalled even in the Wayback Machine archiving link (meaning I can't actually read it to determine if it supports a meaningful notability claim or not), and isn't enough to singlehandedly vault her over GNG all by itself if it's the only GNG-worthy source she's got.
I'm willing to withdraw this if somebody with better access to archived Australian and New Zealand media than I've got can find enough proper GNG-worthy coverage to salvage it, but nothing stated here is "inherently" notable enough to exempt her from having to have better referencing than this. Non-notable tennis player who fails to meet the requirements at WP:GNG and WP:NTENNIS. I am not finding enough sources that are independent of the subject and amount to significant coverage. Lack of WP:NOTABILITY (if it still exists). I've just fixed about half a dozen incoming links intended for the Pakistani organisation of the same name. I suggest moving the Pakistani org to this name, and creating a redirect from Express Media Group (Australia) to the 4WD article. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 08:10, 18 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

p.s. I've just discovered that Express Media Group (Pakistan) is actually just a redirect, not an article. So I suggest just making Express Media Group a redirect to the same article. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 08:37, 18 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

(Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL)

Article fails to demonstrate relevant reliable sources or meeting of WP:GNG as to why Broden Kelly is notable in his own right as opposed to being a member of Aunty Donna. At present the vast majority of the article is a repetition of information on the article for Aunty Donna itself, which highlights the lack of notability as an individual.

The limited information sourced about him himself outside of Aunty Donna looks to be extended comments from a pair of podcast appearances, those he has an employment relationship with (such as a football club) or from his own personal social media accounts, which fail to demonstrate the requirements of reliable, third-party sources to meet notability.

Article should be Redirected to the Aunty Donna page until such a time notability in his own right can be demonstrated. Rambling Rambler (talk) 14:01, 16 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

NZ proposed deletions (WP:PROD)

[edit]

Rather than discussing PROD-nominees here, it is better to contribute to the talk page for the article nominated for deletion. If you agree with the proposed deletion, you don't have to do anything or you may second the nomination. If you think the article merits keeping, then remove the {{prod}} template and make an effort to improve the article so that it clearly meets the notability and verifiability criteria.

A list of prodded articles with {{WikiProject New Zealand}} tags can be seen at Wikipedia:WikiProject New Zealand/Article alerts#Alerts.

This isn't an official list kept by Oceania Athletics Association and appears to be full of original research. Plus, the tables are incomplete. Besides the senior ranks, World Athletics or continental governing bodies typically only keep an official U20 World Record list ("junior") and a U18 World Best list ("youth"). Having record lists that are incomplete and not official seems like a poor choice. I am not nominating the Europe U23 list and South America U23 list for deletion as these have official records kept by European Athletics Association and Atletismo Sudamericano. It's definitely a lot of work to put lists like this together, so I suggest that whoever made this article save a copy in the event this and the articles below get deleted.
